This year’s program will?will explore how to build consensus around policies, gain support for tools and strategies, and work collectively to realize a shared vision. The agenda will also offer time for attendees to meet regionally to lay the groundwork for these collaborations to continue beyond the conference.

As the election results come in, CivicWell wants to underscore our commitment to working across industries, sectors, and partisan divides to advance our shared interest in cultivating livable and sustainable communities. While we recognize that many of our friends and partners are disheartened by the federal results, we have always worked to advance goals around climate resilience and environmental sustainability in a multidisciplinary and nonpartisan way and have experienced many areas of great alignment across the political spectrum. At our annual Policymakers Conference, we intentionally welcomed both Democratic and Republican speakers along with experts working in politically diverse communities across the state. In our fall webinar series, we are bringing together thought leaders across allied fields like health, transportation, disaster recovery, economic development to discuss our shared challenges and opportunities in adapting to climate change. As we look at the election results, California saw broad voter support for Proposition 4. We are thrilled that this Climate Bond will provide the resources necessary to continue the work of our partners in state agencies and local communities, and we intend to support this work into the future. We also hope to leverage this momentum to advance our work in areas like planning livable communities, expanding energy efficiency, and adapting to climate change. The results from national races remind us how important nonpartisan solutions are in supporting thriving communities in ways that concurrently advance economic development and environmental sustainability. We believe there are potential partners and allies who will step into new leadership positions, from federal agencies to Congress. For example, a coalition of 18 House Republicans signed onto a letter in August asking Speaker Johnson not to target clean energy tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) if the GOP maintained a House majority into the future. We look forward to working with partners across the political spectrum to support people and the planet in impactful and lasting ways.

The Louise du Pont Crowninshield Award is the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s highest national recognition. The award is made with the greatest care and only when there is indisputable evidence of superlative achievement over time in the preservation and interpretation of cultural, architectural or maritime heritage, including buildings, architecture, districts, archeology, cultural landscapes, and objects of significance in the history and culture of the United States. From the National Trust's website: "For over 50 years, Tom Butt, the founding principal and president of Interactive Resources, has made a significant national impact on historic preservation through his work as a legislator, mayor, architect, author, volunteer, developer, and activist. His pioneering success in lighthouse preservation became the basis for a new nationwide Coast Guard policy. For his role in founding?Rosie the Riveter Trust, the nonprofit partner of Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Park, Butt brought national recognition to American WWII workers, significantly including women and minorities.
