Join us next week for our upcoming We the People session, "Navigating Election Season In Our Schools." Participants will have the opportunity to learn from three school leaders as they discuss the challenges and opportunities of leading their schools through this contentious election season. They will share insights on the ways they are guiding faculty and supporting students to engage in respectful dialogue, how their religious values inform this work, and how they foster and communicate a positive school culture. Executive Director, Rabbi Charlie Savenor, will join us as the moderator for the panel discussion. To register, please visit civicspirit.org/events We hope to see you there!

Happy World Teachers' Day! Civic Spirit is proud to work alongside our educators in ensuring they have the resources, community, and coaching needed to elevate their work in the classroom and school communities. Our mission of securing students' access to a comprehensive civic education would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our educators. We celebrate and honor this commitment today and everyday at Civic Spirit and invite our community to visit civicspirit.org to learn more about our Educators Cohort fellowship and available opportunities for professional development. Shout out a teacher in the comments that has made a big impact on your life! #HappyWorldTeachersDay #teacherresources #civiceducation

National Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized each year starting September 15 to October 15, aligning with the commemoration of independence days of many Latin American countries. As we join in the celebration of the fight for freedom, we honor the significant contributions Hispanic Americans have made here in the United States in protecting our democracy. We invite educators to visit hispanicheritagemonth.gov which features a wealth of resources and primary documents, including a feature on civil rights activist, Sylvia Mendez. Wishing everyone a Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! Let us know in the comments how you've been celebrating in the classrooms. #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth #teacherresources #civiceducation

Albania has a deep tradition of #civicengagement
Honored to attend the “Bridging Nations: A Tribute to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama” during the UN General Assembly. This event was run by the Combat AntiSemitism Movement (CAM), The Center for Jewish Impact (CJI), and B'nai B'rith International (BBI). H.E. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of #Albania is celebrated as a beacon of unity who protects minorities, combats antisemitism, and promotes Holocaust education. And always a pleasure learning from Ambassador Deborah E. Lipstadt. During the #Holocaust, Albania was the only country that had more Jews at the end of the war than beforehand. I heard PM Rama during the 2023 Sesame Street dinner, and was moved by Albania’s value of “Besa”, welcoming the stranger, building inclusive communities, and protecting those in need.

We invite our network to join Rabbi Savenor for this timely session.
I am excited to teach "American Democracy and Jewish Values" for the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning on Thursday, October 10, at 1-215pm ET. George Washington wrote in 1790 that the establishment of the United States is the “great experiment”. With political polarization, antisemitism, and other forms of hatred challenging American society, we will look at sacred Jewish and American texts designed to inspire the next generation to embrace their inheritance as engaged participants in our democracy. With so much at stake, these sources guide us on the elusive path to rebuilding trust and creating a more perfect union. #civiceducation #CivicEngagement #democracy #hope

Sometimes we need to take a step back to see our local blessings, including #democracy
My latest article, “The Blessing of Perspective”, was published today by TheFulcrum.US “This week we celebrated Constitution Day. With the blessing of perspective, we recognize our visionary founding document as the cornerstone of our democracy and can appreciate the vital role our government plays as an example to other nations around the world.” #civiceducation #civicengagement https://lnkd.in/eMfpuGgk
