City Year Detroit AmeriCorps members serve in schools to prepare students with skills to succeed in school and in life.
关于我们
At City Year, we believe that all students can succeed and that developing the skills and mindsets of children and young adults contributes to strong, vibrant communities—outcomes that benefit all of us. Many students lack access to learning environments and resources they need to thrive in school and in life, due to systemic inequities that disproportionately affect students of color and students growing up in low-income households. City Year AmeriCorps members serve in schools all day, every day, preparing students with the social, emotional, and academic skills and mindsets to succeed in school and in life. City Year AmeriCorps members not only make a difference in the lives of students they serve, but also acquire valuable skills that help them and prepare them to be leaders in their communities and their careers.

During this season of giving thanks, we are SO #GRATEFUL for our City Year AmeriCorps members. As #Thanksgiving approaches, they're sharing why they're thankful for City Year, too. Here's what Sarah Jones had to say.
-
This #electionday we had our Red Jacket dedication ceremony, an annual opportunity for City Year AmeriCorps members to dedicate their red jackets (and the work they do while wearing them) to a person or group that inspires them.? City Year AmeriCorps members across the country follow this tradition, as a reminder of why they are doing this important work. ? The day also included team building, professional development, affinity group meetings and gratitude exercises. Members serving at schools across Detroit had a chance to mingle, share goals, and hear each other’s red jacket dedications.

Our 2024 Opening Day was a high energy, inspiring, moment to remember. We are so proud of the 26th class of City Year Detroit AmeriCorps members. These young adults dedicate a year (or more) of their lives to serve a cause greater than themselves. The impact on students and their own lives is immeasurable. (Watch for the older sister who inspired her younger sister to join us.) Click below for a recap!

A word from our Executive Director and Education Justice Warrior.
We believe in the power of young people. We believe that every student can succeed. We value students first, collaboration always. We work across lines of difference. We make a difference. I am immensely proud of the 26th class of City Year Detroit AmeriCorps members. These young adults dedicate a year of their lives to serve a cause greater than themselves. They are mentors, coaches and role models to our students. I serve as the Executive Director because of our young adults and our students. The days and hours sometimes run together, but it’s the pause for celebration. The pause to uplift the young adults that uplift the students of Detroit! Happy 26th Opening Day, City Year Detroit. I am so proud of your commitment to our students! Remember…the power is in the team.

Say “HELLO” to our 2024 corps! ???? We gathered last night at the beautiful Detroit Historical Museum for our official opening day celebration. 96 corps members took our pledge and will now begin their year of service. Among them are a mother (alum) and daughter who is following in her mother’s footsteps. Two sisters, one returning, one new, and so many others who are dedicating their time and talents to help #Detroit students succeed. Students first. Collaboration always. We are in 4 new schools this year and City Year Detroit continues to grow. Wishing our corps an amazing journey and a life-changing year ahead!

Principal Academy 2024. Complete. A core value at City Year is “Students First, Collaboration Always.” Collaboration between our impact team and the Detroit Public Schools Community District District leadership, partner principals and partner teachers is paramount to our ability to drive student outcomes. This year, City Year Detroit welcomed four new principals to our partnership. Our team is so excited to start our work supporting Pershing High School, Nolan, Pulaski and Dixon Elementary-Middle Schools. Through our expanded footprint, nearly 1,000 students in Detroit will receive small group math, English Language Arts and Social Emotional support this year! We are ready and excited to serve! #studentsriseweallrise

We're thrilled to share that City Year Detroit received a $250,000 community grant from the Taco Bell Foundation yesterday at a local Taco Bell restaurant!
