Apprenticeships empower young people with the skills and experience to make a lasting impact—on their employers, their communities, and their own futures. Meet Sumaya, a high school senior at Washington Leadership Academy Public Charter School and an apprentice in the Global Education department at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Through her apprenticeship, she’s gained invaluable hands-on experience, reshaped her approach to professional growth, and refined her career aspirations. ??The latest NAEP results show that DC has made significant progress in student achievement over the past two decades. In 2007, DC students scored 26 points below the national average—today, that gap has shrunk to just 8 points. At CityWorks DC, we believe that making investments in education and creating workforce pathways are key to sustained progress. Let’s keep up the momentum and ensure that every student has what they need to succeed. #NAEP2024 #DCProgress #EducationMatter

?? DC is leading among similar cities in NAEP improvement—but we know that we must accelerate progress even faster. While gains have been made, we see that our lower-performing students aren’t improving at the same rate as their higher-achieving peers. At CityWorks DC, we focus on bridging the opportunity gap by ensuring students—especially those from underserved communities—have access to high-quality education, career development, and workforce experiences that set them up for success. Our apprenticeship and career pathways initiatives are launching our DC young people into high-wage, high-demand careers.? #EquityInEducation #DCStudents #CityWorksDC #CareerPathways
