The City of York is planning a comprehensive update of its City of York Comprehensive Plan and Downtown Master Plan. We invite firms to submit proposals for this project. As the South Carolina Department of Transportation moves from response into recovery from Hurricane Helene, debris clean-up will be the next step in getting South Carolina back to normal. With thousands of trees down, SCDOT will be removing debris along state highways. For residents in less affected counties, that work is already underway by SCDOT personnel. For residents in Abbeville, Aiken, Anderson, Barnwell, Cherokee, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Saluda, Spartanburg, and Union Counties, contractors will be picking up the debris. They are mobilizing now with a focus on primary and interstate routes first. Work on secondaries and neighborhood streets owned by SCDOT will start on October 14. What nature does in a few hours will take time to clean up. Residents can help the process by keeping debris on the side of the road and off the roadway. Debris should not be placed near mailboxes and fire hydrants. Separating vegetative debris from other debris will help speed up the process. SCDOT has been working since before the storm struck and will continue to work until the job is done.
