This is a true "pinch me" moment! Standing here in the new lobby of the Urbandale Food Pantry alongside our amazing Executive Director Patty Sneddon-Kisting, it's hard to believe how far we've come. This space represents the generosity, hard work, and commitment of countless individuals who believed in our mission and made it possible. To everyone who contributed their time, talents, financial support, and encouragement—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This dream became a reality because of you. And yes, we're officially opening our doors on April 1st—no fooling! We promise it's not an April Fool's joke. We'll have an official ribbon cutting in July, but until then, can you help us reach our fundraising goal? https://lnkd.in/gJk7waVJ

The Mayor and City Council met on Tuesday, March 4, and the meeting began with a proclamation recognizing March 2025 as National Women's History Month, honoring the contributions of past and present female leaders in Urbandale. (Pictured from left to right: Councilmember Carberry Montgomery, Mayor Andeweg, Councilmember Boddy, and Councilmember Croll). The City Council approved the issuances of bonds totaling about $13 million, which will fund various improvements across the city. Cities commonly issue bonds to secure funding for major projects that enhance public infrastructure and services. Instead of paying for everything upfront, the city spreads out the cost over time, much like taking out a mortgage for a house. This approach allows the city to invest in essential infrastructure and improvements while keeping property tax rates stable. The money raised from bonds is then paid back over time using property tax revenue. The City Council also approved a bid for Phase III of the improvements at Lions Park. The vendor will supply and install new playground equipment, along with an additional rubberized surface for safety. These improvements will cost about $350,000 and build upon the previous phases, which included a new splash pad and expanded recreational courts. The City Council approved a bid for storm sewer improvements along Roseland Drive, a three-year project aimed at upgrading pavement, stormwater management, and water mains in the area. The $4.1 million bid for the project came in under budget and is expected to be completed by 2027. At the end of the meeting the Mayor and City Council discussed legislative issues affecting Urbandale, expressing concerns about recent state actions that could impact local governance and civil rights. The Mayor and City Council reinforced their commitment to ensuring Urbandale remains a welcoming and inclusive place for all. Read more: https://lnkd.in/edSraDZd
