Exciting progress is underway at the new Swanger Complex at Spring Lake Park! We’re installing fresh turf on every field, state-of-the-art concession stands and restrooms are in the works. Covered seating for each field and a covered, turfed common area mean you can enjoy the game comfortably—even in the Texas heat. We are truly grateful to bring these improvements to our community. Upgrading our sports complexes not only enhances the experience for our visitors and residents but also supports broader tourism and economic development opportunities in Texarkana. The Swanger Complex is scheduled to open mid April, and the Grady T. Wallace upgrades will be celebrated in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates! #goTXK #TXKParks #SpringLakePark #LetsPlayBall

We continue to celebrate Black History Month with honoring Dr. Shirley Sharpe Finn (1932–2013). Dr. Finn was a trailblazing nurse, educator, and civil rights advocate who transformed healthcare and education in Texarkana. In 1963, she became the first African American operating room nurse at Wadley Hospital, and by 1966, she broke barriers again as the first Black nursing instructor at Texarkana College. Rising to Director of the School of Nursing in 1975, she helped expand nursing programs, securing over $1 million in grants to support students and faculty. A passionate civil rights leader, she also fought against segregation in the 1960s. Her legacy lives on through Texarkana College’s nursing skills lab and an endowed scholarship in her name. #BlackHistoryMonth #Trailblazers #Texarkana #makeachange https://lnkd.in/eAnaUqms
