In 2022, City of Cupertino, in partnership with City of Santa Clara, was awarded $8.5M in grant funding to expand service into Santa Clara. Serving 2000 riders per week, SV Hopper is a wonderful example of how state funding can greatly enhance the services we provide to our local community. The City is pleased to announce the appointment of two new senior leaders to the organization. Damon Sparacino, who joins us from the City of Sunnyvale, will begin work as our new Director of Parks & Recreation starting Nov. 12. And Afshan Hamid, AICP, joining us from Town of Moraga, will begin work as our new Director of Community Development starting Nov. 18. We are beyond thrilled to welcome them both to the City team! The first Community Open House for the Santa Clara Station Area Specific Plan will provide an overview of the work completed so far, along with an opportunity for community members to share their vision for the station area. RSVP for the meeting at https://ow.ly/oG1X50TXrIS Date: Wednesday, Nov. 13 Time: 6 – 8 p.m. Location: Santa Clara Senior Center, 1303 Fremont St. The project team will facilitate visioning activities and present the project scope, timeline, and engagement plan to highlight upcoming opportunities for the community to stay involved throughout the project. The station area comprises 244 acres generally bound by De La Cruz Boulevard, Reed Street, and Martin Avenue to the northeast, and Franklin Street and El Camino Real to the southwest. The existing Santa Clara Transit Station is at the center of the area and is served by Caltrain and Altamont Commuter Express rail lines and VTA bus service. The station area will also become the terminus for the VTA’s planned BART Phase II extension.
