We are mourning and honoring the memory of Jerry Patterson, a former Santa Ana Mayor, City Councilmember and Congressman who passed away at the age of 90 last Friday. Mr. Patterson served on the Santa Ana City Council from 1969 to 1973 and then as mayor for two years, before serving 10 years in Congress. Mr. Patterson was instrumental in bringing the federal courthouse to Santa Ana and was part of the county’s first human relations commission. According to the Orange County Register, he is survived by his wife, four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Our thoughts are with the eight Orange County Fire Authority firefighters who were injured in last week’s rollover crash. These firefighters were returning from the Airport fire where they were risking their lives to protect the Orange County community, as so many OCFA firefighters do on a daily basis, including here in Santa Ana.
