?? Hats off to the City Planning Department for taking home the Sustainable Growth Award at the 2024 Circulate San Diego Momentum Awards! ???? The Momentum Awards recognize people and projects in the San Diego region that are creating excellent mobility choices and vibrant, healthy neighborhoods. The Planning Department received the Sustainable Growth Award in recognition of three separate projects: the Blueprint SD Initiative, the Hillcrest Focused Plan Amendment and the University Community Plan Update. These projects provide frameworks that guide neighborhood growth and development and help the City reach its equity, climate and housing goals. ???? As part of an ongoing effort to recruit and retain a skilled workforce, the City of San Diego is adding new educational opportunities for its employees to further their career growth and development. Today the San Diego City Council approved agreements with National University, San Diego College of Continuing Education, University of California San Diego Division of Extended Studies, and the University of California San Diego Rady School of Management to be the Official Employee Education Program Partners of the City of San Diego.? ? Have you met IKE? It’s the first Interactive Kiosk Experience (IKE) to launch in Downtown San Diego at the corner of Fourth Ave. and B Street. The kiosk is here to help you with directions, restaurant recommendations and more. Additional kiosks will be installed over the next two years within the following areas of Downtown San Diego: City Center, Columbia District, Marina District, East Village, Cortez and the Convention Center District.

The City’s Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport has become the first public airport in San Diego County to offer unleaded aviation fuel to aircraft owners. Leaded aviation fuel raises concerns for community members and pilots due to the potential harms of lead exposure. As a leader in climate action, the City recognizes the need for more environmentally friendly fuel options and is proud to now offer this new option to aircraft owners! ???

The City of San Diego received a national honor from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC): the 2024 Qualification-Based Selection (QBS) Award for the State or Local Government Sector. ?? This award recognizes agencies for their exemplary use of QBS methods for procuring engineering services for infrastructure projects. This is the second major QBS award received this year. In April, the City received the QBS Champion Award at the state level from American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACEC California) As part of the national award, Elif Cetin, Acting Director of Engineering and Capital Projects, and Claudia Abarca, Director of Purchasing and Contracting, were featured on ACEC's Engineering Influence podcast to share insights on the City's QBS journey.
