#CityCouncilRecap ? (11/04/2024) ?? City Council officially swore in the newest member of Oak Park Public Safety, K9 Officer Vader, alongside his new partner, Officer Kyle Lawless. Lawless, a 5-year veteran of Oak Park Public Safety and K9 Officer Vader trained for 6-weeks together at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. Vader is trained in explosive detection and patrol work which includes tracking, area searches, building searches, bite-work and obedience. He has a very calm demeanor but is very driven when working and makes an excellent addition to the Oak Park Public Safety team. ???? We had the opportunity to honor some real-world heroes as we welcomed the Nurses of the Lambda Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. This incredible group of women donated their time this past year to give out free blood pressure checks and cuffs during this year's Farmers Market. Their efforts helped notify a resident of a potential health concern, in coordination with her doctor, these efforts may have saved her life. ?? Finally, our Recreation staff presented a recap of the 2024 Oak Park Farmers Market. Highlights include: a total of 14 market events, more than 20 vendors, 4 participating farms, approximately $7,500 in food assistance accepted, countless memories made, and numerous fresh fruits and veggies enjoyed! Until next year, Oak Park!
