City Council, along with City Manager Erik Tungate and Public Safety Director Steve Cooper, honored the careers of the outgoing duo of Officer Michael Hodakoski and K9 Officer Mase. As Oak Parks’ first ever K9 Unit, Officer Hodakoski and Mase set the bar at the highest level for the past 8 years and performed at that level every day. Mase was known as a consistent and a top-tier tracker, well known amongst law-enforcement here in Oakland County, Michigan and around the state. We wish Officer Hodakoski and Mase the very best as they enter retirement starting on March 31. We thank them for representing the best of this city, and for their service to our community. ? ???Read all about it ??? : City of Oak Park Names Adam Owczarzak, MPA Deputy City Manager of Community Services City Manager Erik Tungate - MBA, ICMA-CM, IPMA-SCP announced the recent hire of Adam Owczarzak, MPA as the City of Oak Park Deputy City Manager of Community Services. Owczarzak fills the vacancy recently created by the departure of longtime city employee Crystal VanVleck who took on the role of City Manager in the neighboring city of Berkley. Owczarzak will oversee the City of?Oak Park’s Recreation related staff and functions, community engagement and resident services functions, strategic planning as well as a variety of vital public administration functions including project management and overall city management support. “Adam brings a unique mix of skill, education and experience to his post here at the City of Oak Park,” said Tungate. “Oak Park continues to build on a decade of economic investment and momentum; so, what better time to add enthusiastic new talent to our management team. We are eager to put his energy and excitement to work on the many projects and initiatives taking shape in our community.” Owczarzak joins us from the City of Madison Heights where he served as the Special Projects Manager and Grant Administrator. Adam served in a variety of roles and increasing responsibility since first joining the City of Madison Heights in 2020. His experience includes sizable grant acquisition and administration, capital improvement projects, budget, finance and overall project management and public administration via the City Manager’s Office. Prior to joining the City of Madison Heights, Adam garnered valuable experience via positions at the Huntington Woods City Manager’s Office, the Oakland County Elections Division and City of Troy, City Clerk’s Office. In 2021, Adam was recognized as a "Top 100 Influencer in Local Government" by Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL), highlighting his positive impact and dedication to public service. OPYA works to strengthen youth and families and to prevent and reduce incidents of juvenile delinquency, neglect and abuse through volunteer involvement. ??Lastly, the City Council approved the purchase of a specialized drone for use by the Oak Park Public Safety Department. Drones of this nature are nationwide best-practice in terms of emergency preparedness, emergency management, threat surveillance and risk reduction, crime scene analysis, search and rescue efforts and more.
