The City of Lone Tree is celebrating Black History Month by sharing the stories and experiences of members of our community! In this video, Kelli Kelly shares about being inspired by Ruby Bridges, the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the American South at six years old, the importance of amplifying and celebrating diverse voices, and leveraging one's differences to their advantage. Kelli currently serves as VP, Business Development & Strategy – Economic Inclusion for Kiewit in Lone Tree. She volunteers with several community organizations focused on education and economic development; and currently serves on numerous boards, including Denver Workforce Development Board (Chair), Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CABPES), and the CONFERENCE OF MINORITY TRANSPORTATION OFFICIALS (COMTO) Colorado Chapter. A past honoree of Denver Business Journal’s “Top Forty Under 40” and Engineering News Record’s “Top Twenty Under 40,” Kelli approaches all aspects of both her professional and personal life with passion and enthusiasm. Kelli’s hobbies include fitness activities, shopping, and watching 80’s television reruns. The City of Lone Tree is celebrating Black History Month by sharing the stories and experiences of members of our community! In this video, Lone Tree resident Robert Kenney, Jr. talks about the opportunity to learn history, being inspired by youth pursuing their education during the civil rights movement, and making an impact on the community through service on the Lone Tree Youth Commission. Robert is a junior at Colorado Academy where he maintains a 4.16 GPA (weighted) and 3.97 (unweighted) GPA on a 4.0 scale. He competes locally, regionally and nationally in speech and debate. Robert enjoys playing V2 tennis. He also plays bass, guitar and drums with Colorado Academy’s Jazz Band. He also co-leads as Student Investment Manager at Colorado Academy. Robert enjoys volunteering with the Lone Tree Youth Commission and Teen Court. Robert is a 2024 Yale Young Global Scholar. He is Vice President of the Denver Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated where he leads with distinction and volunteers in the community. The City of Lone Tree is celebrating Black History Month by sharing the stories and experiences of members of our community! In this video, Lisa Herman shares about reflecting on and celebrating the accomplishments of Black Americans, being inspired by historical figures as well as her own mother, and encouraging and shaping young people to have confidence in themselves. Lisa is a Special Needs Learning Specialist at Eagle Ridge Elementary School in Lone Tree teaching children with complex needs. She is a wife and mother of two boys, and has one granddaughter. She is a Pastor at Higher Level Denver Church in Aurora, CO. She volunteers at Holm Elementary School in Denver, CO, with the food distribution and pack-up of food storage bins. She also volunteers at her church for various projects such as the School Supplies Give-Away for Holm Elementary School. In this video, Robert Kenney shares how Black History Month serves to showcase contributions that African Americans have made to the United States, historical figures and events that have inspired him, and the importance of being a role model for others and engaging with the wider community. Robert and his family are Lone Tree residents, and he is a member of the Lone Tree Arts Center Fund Board. Robert currently serves as the President of Xcel Energy, Colorado. Previously, Robert served as Senior Vice President of Regulatory and External Affairs at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, as well as served on the Missouri Public Service Commission, including two years as Chairman; and served as the Missouri Attorney General's Chief of Staff. Community Spotlight: Schweiger Ranch Schweiger Ranch, one of Lone Tree’s most notable historic landmarks, celebrates its 150-year anniversary this year. Nestled on 38 acres in RidgeGate, this historic treasure takes us back generations to another era-- when the pioneers settled the area in the late 1800s. Schweiger Ranch was homesteaded in 1874 by three brothers from Austria. The Schweiger family grew over generations and thrived on the ranch for nearly a century. Today, Schweiger Ranch stands as a designated Douglas County historic landmark, meticulously preserved and restored as a living history open-air museum complete with a treasure trove of fascinating historic elements. The Lone Tree Police Department's School Resource Officers take their jobs very seriously....themselves, not so much! ?? We appreciate the hard work and service that our SROs provide to our schools and our community every day. Learn more about our SROs ?? ??Officer Kyle Goudy has been in law enforcement for 18 years, and an SRO for three. He serves Lone Tree Elementary, Eagle Ridge Elementary, and Eagle Academy. His favorite part of being an SRO is knowing that he keeps the schools safe, and getting high fives from the kids when they're happy to see him. ??Officer Scott Howard has been in law enforcement for 14 years, and an SRO for two. He serves the Legacy Campus, and loves being available as a resource to students. ??Officer Kate Roberts has been in law enforcement for just under 4 years, and will be attending SRO training in March. She assists Officers Howard, Goudy, and Larson will all schools as needed. She's excited to become an SRO, and be able to work with students and teachers to build strong community relationships. ??Officer Kris Larson has been in law enforcement for 22 years, and an SRO for eight. He serves Eagle Academy High School and Lone Tree Elementary.
