A Message from Mayor R. Rex Parris on the Charges Filed Against Lancaster Deputy: ? Our law enforcement officers serve on the front lines, often in high-pressure situations, and they deserve our support as they make tough decisions to protect our community. The recent charges filed against one of our deputies highlight the importance of standing by those who navigate complex and rapidly evolving incidents.? ? In this case, the deputy responded to a shoplifting incident that escalated into a physical altercation. While the legal process continues, we must recognize the challenges our officers face in these situations and ensure they are not unfairly targeted due to political pressures.? ? The charges stem from an incident at a Lancaster grocery store in July 2023. After reviewing the bodycam footage, the deputy acted swiftly to maintain control in a situation that was escalating quickly. We respect the ongoing investigation and will continue to support our officers as they work under difficult circumstances to protect our community.
