On Thrusday, 5th graders from LaGrange Academy visited City Hall to learn about local government from city officials Mayor Jim Arrington and Assistant City Manager Bill Bulloch. It was a treat having local young leaders be excited to learn about local government and its impact on the community. #LagrangeGa #cityinspired

***SAVE THE DATE*** LaGrange Police?Department's National Night Out will be Tuesday, October 1st in the Immanuel Ministries and Worship Center’s parking lot, 135 Buena Vista Avenue in LaGrange, 6-8 p.m. Public safety from throughout the area will participate in this family-friendly and free event. National Night Out, or NNO, has been celebrated throughout the country for around forty years. The purpose of NNO is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, and strengthen community spirit. It also sends a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and are standing to fight back against crime. Congratulations! Rep. Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City) received a 2024 “Champion of Georgia’s Cities Award” from the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). GMA Director of Governmental Relations and former LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton presented this award to Rep. Buckner at the recent LaGrange City Council meeting. The award is given at the end of every two-year legislative term to state legislators who actively support major GMA initiatives and goals. Rep. Buckner has long been an advocate for city revitalization and in particular the redevelopment of downtowns and historic structures. She was the principal advocate and the House sponsor for legislation that ultimately became SB 496, which extended and expanded the state historic tax credit and extended the state revitalization zone tax credit.?Both tax credits are of value and benefit to many Georgia cities. ? In addition, Rep. Buckner was a principal advocate during the 2024 session for Georgia cities in opposing the expansion of private water systems without municipal oversight. ? “Representative Buckner has long been a supporter of the cities in her district and throughout the state,” said GMA CEO & Executive Director Larry Hanson.?“She knows the important work done by cities and works closely with GMA to advance legislation that aids cities, supports their revitalization, and benefits their residents.” ? Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefits, and consulting services to its 536 member cities.

In honor of 9/11 the LaGrange Fire Department and other local law agencies participated the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Thank you to all the first responders not just in our local community, but across the country for your bravery and dedication. All the proceeds from this event went to the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund of Georgia.

The City of LaGrange will host its first litter cleanup of the year on Saturday, September 14th at 8AM Moss and Wood Park located at 118 Brown Street. Our community partner for this clean is the Troup-Coweta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. See you there!
