?? ? An exciting morning at the Elgin Sports Complex groundbreaking ceremony! The complex, located just south of U.S. Route 20 east of McLean Boulevard, is set to undergo a significant transformation with three state-of-the-art synthetic turf fields, advanced lighting systems, and sturdy fencing across the 87 acres recently acquired from Illinois. These enhancements are poised to effectively address the growing demand within the community for versatile sports fields, catering to a wide range of recreational programs, with a particular emphasis on soccer. ?? ?? ?? This morning, the Elgin Fire Department, Elgin, Illinois and Elgin Police Department hosted the annual Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony at The Hemmens. The ceremony paid tribute to the heroes and victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. It concluded with the flags posted by the Honor Guards of the Elgin Fire Department and the Elgin Police Department. Following the flag posting, students from Larkin High School performed "The National Anthem", and "Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes. ???? As the summer is wrapping up, we'd like to express our gratitude to our summer interns for all their hard work and dedication to the City of Elgin! The City of Elgin's STEAM Summer Internship Program offers high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore their interests in STEM and arts fields. The program aims to engage students in projects that will help improve Elgin as a place to work and live. STEM jobs in the City of Elgin cover a wide range of activities, from outdoor water testing and hands-on computer repairs to crime analysis at our police department, prevention inspections with our fire department, care and safety of animals at the Lords Park Zoo, as well as assistance with restoration at Hawthorne Hills Nature Center and lab testing of the city’s water.
