By October 10, make sure to walk to your favorite park! It's National Walk to a Park Day and we want to see your local parks through your lens. Take a picture, upload it to Trust for Public Land's page at www.tpl.org/walk, and help them secure vital funding to put parks in reach of more people. A neighborhood’s access to alcohol — as characterized by the number and density of alcohol outlets located there — can have serious consequences for the health outcomes of residents. That’s why at CityHealth, we support cities in implementing policies that limit the impact of alcohol on their communities, by reducing the hours alcohol can be sold or requiring minimum distances between alcohol outlets and parks. https://lnkd.in/e-b-HeBc

City governments play a vital role in their communities, both as major employers and as providers of a wide variety of services to residents, including the food served on city properties like parks, shelters, and hospitals. That’s why it’s vital that cities work to provide equitable access to healthy food across public spaces to reduce health disparities and advance nutrition outcomes for all residents. In our new blog, we partnered with the Center for Science in the Public Interest to explore how cities are centering equity in Healthy Food Purchasing policies using strategies like procuring food from smaller vendors and expanding access to culturally appropriate foods. Recently, our partners at Smart Growth America released a report showing that our roads are “dangerous by design.” The report finds that 7,522 people were struck and killed while walking in 2022, an average of more than 20 per day. This represents a 40-year high for pedestrian fatalities, and a 75% increase in deaths since 2010. Every person deserves to get around their cities safely, which is why metro areas must continue to invest in Complete Streets policies, which create roads and sidewalks that are safer and more accessible for every resident. Policies that restrict the sale of Flavored Tobacco products help to reduce the health risks associated with their marketing. https://lnkd.in/ewTreSM5
