What a breathtaking afternoon celebrating the 40th City of Bloomington Women’s History Month Luncheon hosted by our Community and Family Resources Department. The lunch presentation was moving, powerful, and a beautiful tribute to the women shaping our city’s future and honoring its past. Congratulations to this year’s award recipients: Danielle Benedek, Amy Oelsner, and Jael Davis. And thank you to keynote speaker Tamara Winfrey-Harris, CSSGB, whose words stirred both thought and purpose. As we reflect on this milestone event, may we carry its energy forward in action and continue to create space for bold leadership.

Kalei Klaassen, Assistant Superintendent at our Utilities Dillman Wastewater Treatment Plant, was named Apprentice of the Year at the Indiana Rural Water Spring Conference! This is a big win not just for Kalei, but for the whole community—because well-trained, dedicated professionals like Kalei help ensure the systems we rely on every day run safely and smoothly. From protecting public health to supporting environmental sustainability, their work keeps Bloomington flowing in the right direction.

We're thrilled to welcome our newest team members as they take a deep dive into Bloomington’s values, priorities, and projects—part of HR’s new quarterly onboarding sessions designed to set them up for success. After all, starting strong means understanding the big picture! And because no big meeting is complete without a little extra star power… Deputy Dog made a special appearance, too.

At City Hall, we believe in the power of mentorship and hands-on learning. In partnership with HR, we hosted an intern appreciation event—not just to thank our interns for their work, but to encourage them to continue stepping into their roles as co-creators in the community. From networking over lunch to hearing from city leaders about how their work shapes Bloomington, this event was all about learning, connecting, and inspiring the next generation of public service pros.
