We're so excited to introduce you to Liam a new team member here at CSP!?? Liam joins our team as a Part-Time Surf Coach! He is passionate about helping Bay Area youth connect with the ocean—an opportunity he wishes he had growing up in Oakland. Liam brings 25 years of surfing experience and 15 years of lifeguard and swim instruction. With a deep love for surf photography and the outdoors, Liam is dedicated to facilitating access to nature, diversifying the surf lineup, and empowering others to experience the transformative power of the ocean. Last weekend, our amazing coaches at City Surf Project partnered with Santa Cruz based Ride a Wave, another non-profit organization that focuses on giving children with special needs the experience of riding waves in a safe and fun-filled environment. Our lead coaches and Alumni had the opportunity to learn how to tandem boogie, tandem surf, and provide an exciting experience for those that are physically, developmentally, or economically challenged. Our coaches are looking forward to implementing these new tools and techniques in the San Francisco water with our students across the city! Summer is right around the corner which means we can't wait for our new crew of Alumni to join us and head out on some epic surf trips! ?? These trips aren’t just about surfing, they’re about creating opportunities, building confidence, and shaping the next generation of leaders. Through our Alumni Surf Trips, we provide young people with real-world skills, mentorship, and a community that supports their growth. These trips are designed to push boundaries, foster resilience, and deepen their understanding of the ocean—and themselves. We're so thankful to Aim High for their generous donation to help support our middle school surf programs! Our middle schoolers have a blast every week getting out of their classrooms and into the natural world.

When the swells or water quality aren't the best, our program team and amazing volunteers still make sure our students get outside and get to learn! A few weeks ago, a group of students from Leadership went down to Half Moon Bay for a tidepooling adventure. Our students got to hold crabs, touch anemone, and learn about the impressive biodiversity that tidepools have to offer. It was a wonderful reminder that the ocean offers so much for than just waves. It is a multifaceted and dynamic system that provides us with so much.
