?? Sound on for the video. Yesterday morning, we recognized the 2023 Wood Dale Veteran Banner Program participants and respectfully retired their banners. These banners were displayed along Irving Park Road for one year. It's been an honor to celebrate these military service men and women. Thank you to the Wood Dale Park District and Salt Creek Golf Club staff for hosting the participating families. A very warm thank you to Itasca Bank & Trust Co. and Jim Mensching, president, for sponsoring the event. VFW Tioga Post 2149 led the Color Guard entrance, and Boy Scout Troop 65 led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a beautiful morning. Thank you to everyone who attended this year's City of Wood Dale Green Fair! The Wood Dale for a Greener Tomorrow Committee and Public Works Department accomplished its goal of reducing waste in landfills and incinerators, which reduces pollution and greenhouse gases. We also prevented identity theft by offering document shredding. We hope that this event will motivate families to continue their green intentions. It took much work to make the Green Fair a success, and it was wonderful to see so many citizens drop off items and confirm their commitment to the earth and community. Your thank yous, smiles, and expressions of gratitude made our day! ??Last Thursday, we bid farewell to Alderman Peter A. Jakab from Ward One, at what turned out to be a bittersweet City Council meeting.?? Jakab dedicated 11 years of service as an alderman in Wood Dale. His most notable achievements include initiating the Police Department Bike Patrol Program, the Potter Street Beautification Project, and the City's Property Maintenance Program. During his tenure, he chaired the City's Finance Committee and also served on the Stormwater Management Commission, the O'Hare Noise Committee, the Planning & Zoning, Building Committee, the Streetscape and Economic Enhancement Committee, the Public Works Committee, and the RFP Committee. His presence at the dais, and his interactions with staff and citizens were always characterized by humor and compassion, leaving a positive impact on the community. Although he is no longer a resident of Wood Dale, his commitment to the community will endure. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Peter Jakab for his immense contributions to making Wood Dale a better place to live, work, and play.
