After 37 years of dedicated service to the City of West Carrollton, Chief of Police Doug Woodard will retire on March 9, 2025. Chief Woodard has been a steadfast leader, shaping the West Carrollton Police Department. We thank him for his professionalism, dedication, and commitment to public safety. Chief Woodard began his journey in public safety in 1984 as a patrol officer in Madison Township before joining the West Carrollton Police Department in 1988. Over the next four decades, he rose through the ranks, serving as a K9 Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Training Coordinator, Special Investigations Team Commander, and Deputy Chief before being appointed Chief of Police. From his early days as a Patrol Officer to his tenure as Chief, his commitment to public safety and community partnerships has left a lasting legacy. His passion for initiatives like Pizza with Police, Shop with Heroes, and Operation Santa has strengthened the bond between our officers and the residents we serve. City Council will recognize Chief Woodard’s career with a resolution at the February 25th City Council meeting. Deputy Chief David Wessling will serve as Interim Police Chief beginning March 10th. Join us in celebrating Chief Woodard’s legacy and wishing him the best in his retirement!

Earlier this week, Mayor Richard Barnhart, Deputy Mayor Angie Fryman, Councilman Boyle, City Manager Amber Holloway, and Assistant City Manager Dan Wendt proudly represented West Carrollton at the Ohio Statehouse. Our visit included engaging in conversations about the future of our community and advocating for key initiatives to benefit our residents and region, including the River District & Whitewater Park. We are deeply grateful to Representative Tom Young, Senator Willis Blackshear, Representative Phil Plummer, the Ohio Department of Development, and the Ohio Municipal League for meeting with us. A special highlight of the trip was being recognized by Representative Young during a House Session—an honor for our team and city! Thank you to Dan Pozniak & Matt Davis for coordinating this successful visit.

Today, we come together to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day—a day to reflect on the life, work, and lasting impact of Dr. King, a visionary leader in the civil rights movement. His unwavering dedication to justice, equality, and nonviolent social change continues to inspire us all. Dr. King showed us the transformative power of standing up for what’s right through peaceful action and collaboration. His legacy reminds us that the fight for racial equality, voting rights, and justice is as important today as ever. As the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, MLK Day calls on each of us to make a positive difference. Whether volunteering at a shelter, mentoring youth, or participating in community events, we can all contribute to building stronger, more united communities. Let’s also take time to have meaningful conversations, reflect on our collective progress, and recommit to the ideals Dr. King stood for. Together, we can honor his vision by working toward a future of unity, equality, and justice for all. City offices will be open today. No trash delay.

We are making strides for outdoor recreation access along the Great Miami River! The City Of West Carrollton is transforming a 28-acre former industrial site into an adventure hub featuring a campground and recreational facilities. This $10.8 million project will complement the planned Whitewater Park and create new opportunities for outdoor adventure in our region. The transformation will clean up and revitalize riverfront property, create 300 new jobs, expand recreational access, and support the growing outdoor tourism economy. Another example of our communities turning toward the river to create vibrant spaces for everyone to enjoy! #GreatMiamiRiverway #RiverfrontDevelopment #BrownfieldRemediation #OutdoorRecreation #WestCarrollton
