The City of Opportunity

关于我们

We're proud of our 200-year heritage. And today, Vallejo continues to be a friendly, active waterfront community that attracts innovative and hardworking people and businesses. This is reflected in Vallejo being ranked the hottest real estate market in the United States for the past twelve months. The City of Vallejo's story begins in 1844 when General Mariano G. Vallejo saw the promise of the area. Named after him and twice the site of the state capitol in the 1850s, Vallejo grew into an important shipping and naval center. Legend has it that Mare Island got its name after Gen. Vallejo drove a herd of horses across the Carquinez Strait. Established in 1854, Mare Island Naval Shipyard was the West Coast's first shipyard. Decommissioned in 1996, Mare Island is now home to more than 100 businesses and has become an industrial, commercial and residential engine for the Bay Area. A strong economy and affordable housing have meant new prosperity for Vallejo, as businesses and residents come to the city. Some are attracted by the beautifully restored Victorian homes and business fronts; others by the newer homes in the Northgate and Hiddenbrooke developments. The city recently earned Main Street designation, and as a result our downtown area has benefited from on-site training in effective commercial district revitalization, technical assistance, consulting services, networking activities, and site assessments from California Main Street. Waterfront and Mare Island redevelopment have become a community effort, with input from residents helping shape the future of what will become the most important economic generators for the city. The city's Ferry Terminal and ferry services have served as a model for the rest of the Bay Area, helping make Vallejo a transportation and commuter hub for the North Bay with over 1 million riders annually. Six Flags Marine World, restaurants and the Downtown Farmer's Market help make Vallejo the vibrant community it is today.

  • Andrew's Announcements - A Message From the Vallejo City Manager Hello Vallejo, Looks like we have a few more nice days of weather, then we can expect rain next week. You might need to bring your umbrella to the Bay Trail-Vine Trail ribbon cutting event at the Ferry Terminal next Friday. March is Women’s History Month. The City Council will present a proclamation to help recognize and celebrate later this month. We had the kick-off meeting on Wednesday night for our 2025 Citizens Academy, with more than 50 participants. The community members engaged with the City Manager’s Office and City Clerk’s Office to learn how City government works and how community members can get more involved. The Finance Department is collecting your input through the FY 2025-26 Budget Community Survey. We have also added a Community Forum (idea wall) where you can share your thoughts on the City’s budget priorities. Please check out the “Idea Wall Budget 2025-2026” at https://lnkd.in/gp-Wnkeg. The City is communicating with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office regarding a potential contract through which Sheriff’s Deputies would provide limited-term policing services in Vallejo to supplement the Vallejo Police Department. The City Council is holding a special meeting on Thursday to receive an update and provide direction on this potential collaboration. We truly appreciate all of our law enforcement partnerships. You’ll find in this edition of the Vallejo Weekly information on more street improvements coming your way from Public Works! With appreciation, Andrew Murray Vallejo City Manager https://lnkd.in/gzhcpBVf

  • STA awards $24.9 million construction contract for SR 37/Fairgrounds Dr. Interchange Improvements Project; Construction Anticipated to Begin March 2025 SOLANO COUNTY – Solano Transportation Authority (STA), in partnership with the City of Vallejo, California Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and Solano County, has awarded a contract to Bay Area contractor Ghilotti Construction Company, Inc. for the construction of the State Route (SR) 37/Fairground Drive Interchange Improvements Project. This project will implement a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) design at the intersection of SR 37 and Fairgrounds Drive to significantly improve traffic flow and safety while reducing congestion. This DDI will be the first in the Bay Area and represents STA’s implementation of an innovative design to improve multimodal accessibility and safety. Beyond improving traffic flow and reducing congestion, this project will also provide continuous Class II bicycle lanes and pedestrian facilities and improve mobility access for historically disadvantaged communities by increasing connections to regional transit, employers, and the greater Vallejo Area. This Project supports a larger countywide effort to revitalize the Solano County Fairgrounds and encourage economic growth and development, which will develop a mixed-use neighborhood with space for commercial establishments, public facilities, and multi-unit housing along with a transit mobility hub. This interchange project was awarded RM3 bridge toll funds, with Solano County as a project partner. Construction on the State Route (SR) 37/Fairground Drive Interchange Improvements Project is anticipated to start in late March 2025, with completion by mid-2026. Pre-construction work, including tree removal, will begin in early March 2025. Landscape improvements will be made at the conclusion of construction. For more information about the project and to view a video explaining the DDI design, please visit https://lnkd.in/g6tYQv_6.

  • Through the City’s annual budget, the City Council identifies the revenues that the City will receive and allocates those revenues to City departments to provide public services. The annual budget covers a “fiscal year” that runs from July 1st through June 30th of the following year. Beginning around February or March of each year, City staff and the City Council collaborate to develop the annual budget. Staff and the City Council rely on community input to guide the budget development process. The City will be using additional mechanisms to gather community input as part of the development of the fiscal year (FY) 2025-2026 budget, including a community survey and workshops. Please share your input on what services the City should prioritize and where you think challenges and opportunities lie by completing the FY 2025-2026 budget survey. https://lnkd.in/gbheArgq

  • Hello Vallejo, This nice weather is helping families venture out to the wonderful events in Vallejo. To continue our celebration of Black History Month, please enjoy the article from Miss Vallejo Tonya Johnson and her experience representing our diverse community. Also, check out our Staff Spotlight on Oni Brown, Water Conservation Coordinator, who describes his pride in working for the City!? The City held a press conference on Thursday to highlight our participation in an exclusive federal law enforcement program and its impact. Through the program, called the Public Safety Partnership (PSP), the City receives additional law enforcement from federal agencies, as well as training and technical assistance. At the press conference, the FBI and ATF announced the results of significant operations that have led to numerous arrests related to illegal guns and street gangs. These operations will immediately improve safety in the City. The Police Department will also describe a new group violence intervention program it will implement, Vallejo VISION. Next week, the City Council will hold two special Council meetings related to public safety. On Tuesday, the City Council will consider potential revisions to the ordinance that establishes the Police Oversight and Accountability Commission (POAC). This commission plays a key role in reviewing Police use of force incidents. On Thursday, the City Council will receive an update on a potential collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement support. Please see our City website https://lnkd.in/g_ArXMru for more details on these special meetings. The public is welcome to engage with the City Council and staff to improve public safety in the city. I want to share information on a tragic accident that occurred on December 24, 2024. An individual was fatally injured during removal of illegally dumped material. The City extends its heartfelt condolences to the family. You can find more information on this accident on this press release https://conta.cc/4k90bXb. I hope you’ll come to our event on March 14th?to celebrate the Bay Trail-Vine Trail Ribbon Cutting,?11 am?at the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. At our regular City Council meeting last Tuesday, there was much talk about plans for the waterfront! With the help of grants and partners, the City is moving forward to study long-term options for improving the Vallejo Marina and seawall.? We appreciate everyone’s input and engagement. We continue to gather ideas on next year’s budget. Please take a moment to fill out the Budget Community Survey seen in this edition of the Vallejo Weekly if you haven’t yet provided your feedback.?
