Vacaville, California is located in northern Solano County, midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. The City's rich history has transformed the community from a small agricultural town into a thriving and progressive city; now a diverse population of 100,000 residents who pride themselves on a high level of community involvement. While the City’s population history and demographics show its rapid growth, Vacaville had maintained its small town charm. Affordable housing, quality schools, a wide array of youth activities, and numerous community events contribute to making Vacaville a family-oriented city. Residents of all ages participate in organized sports leagues year-round. There are also high quality recreation programs for all ages, and state-of-the-art public recreation facilities, including a community pool with water slides and a diving well, ball fields, and a skateboard park. With Vacaville’s central location, residents can “day trip” to beaches, Lake Tahoe, and the Napa wine country. For those who want to stay local, Lagoon Valley Park provides the opportunity to fish, hike, and sail in a scenic, natural setting. Other options include enjoying the downtown with a stroll along the beautiful Creekwalk, catching a movie, or hitting the ice at the skating center. Residents and visitors enjoy an expanding choice of restaurants in the revitalized, historic downtown, and some of the best shopping in the area with a thriving retail district along Interstate 80 that includes one of the largest factory outlet complexes in California.     Solano County Public Health has announced travel-related dengue virus cases in Solano County. This is occurring at the same time as the Solano County Mosquito Abatement District (SCMAD) has made a new detection of invasive mosquitos in Vacaville that can transmit the dengue virus (link to press release: https://lnkd.in/gHuXDgyM in bio). Dengue virus is spread by Aedes mosquitos (photographed here). Nearly all dengue cases reported in California have been associated with exposure through travel to an area affected by dengue outside of California. As of November 1, 2024, the California Department of Public Health reports a total of 344 dengue virus infections. Solano has no reported cases of locally acquired dengue virus infections.     Now Open: New Playground and Off Leash Dog Area at Mariposa Center When there is a break in the rain, take the kiddos and dogs to get their energy out at the new Mariposa Play Structure and Off Leash Dog Area located at 1625 Alamo Drive at the intersection of Mariposa Drive. This flexible recreation area includes the addition of a newly constructed mountain-themed play structure and fenced off leash dog area, which are both improved with new seating areas and drinking fountains. Located in District 4, the Mariposa Center improvements were partially funded with Measure M, the City's ? cent sales tax. #COVVCA #COVVPR #MeasureM
