The Treasure Island Fire Rescue Annual Chili Cook-Off set the heat ablaze on the top floor of City Hall last night (Feb. 21)! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support this spicy showdown. While some participants took home prizes for the best chili (check out the video for the winners), we believe that everyone who took part is a winner. TIFR is grateful for the fantastic turnout and support!

BIG congratulations to Mayor John Doctor for winning this year's Outstanding Environmental Civil Servant Award from Keep Pinellas Beautiful(KPB)! Mayor Doctor received this honor at the KPB Annual Awards Luncheon earlier today, February 19, for his dedication to keeping the Treasure Island community clean. The Mayor goes out of his way, making it a point to walk the streets many mornings, picking up trash and litter, and reminding us we can all do our part to keep our community clean. The City of Treasure Island is also celebrating Carrie Auerbach of Treasure Island - Adopt A Beach, who took home the Outstanding Environmental Nonprofit Partner award from KPB. Carrie’s tireless efforts with the Adopt-A-Beach program, which was also named Adoption Program of the Year by Keep Florida Beautiful, are a huge part of why our beaches are so beautiful. Thank you to Carrie and all the volunteers who keep our beaches and community clean and pristine.

At the February 18 Treasure Island City Commission meeting, Fire Chief Trip Barrs and Treasure Island Fire Rescue members proudly presented the department’s Mission and Core Values Statements to the Commission and the public. Developed by the dedicated members of TIFR, this Mission Statement embodies their unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the Treasure Island community. Their core values emphasize professionalism, integrity, and compassion in keeping residents and visitors safe. Thank you to the city’s first responders for their service.

The Treasure Island Police Department proudly celebrates Officer Darren Chiaputti for 25 years of dedication to TIPD and the City of Treasure Island. Throughout his career, Officer Chiaputti has been a cornerstone of our community, leaving a lasting impact through his leadership and commitment to service. One of his notable achievements is co-founding the L.I.F.T. program, which aims to improve access to essential programs, services, and housing for our most vulnerable residents. This initiative reflects the advantages of collaboration between the city and the community in creating meaningful opportunities for change. TIPD expresses its deep gratitude to Officer Chiaputti for his dedication, compassion, and service. He exemplifies the values and mission of TIPD, and the department is honored to have him on the team.

Congratulations to the 2024 Treasure Island Employees of the Year! Employees of the Year are nominated by their peers and supervisors to recognize their contributions. The 2024 winners are: Public Safety: Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Drooger | Treasure Island Fire Rescue Respected and regarded for guidance and knowledge by all members of the Fire Department, FF Drooger took the initiative this year to build a dryer for their turnout gear, which would typically cost up to $10,000. By researching and adapting DIY plans online, FF Drooger created the apparatus for less than $1,000. This is a testament to his ongoing dedication to the Fire Department and the City. Office: Jackie Gabriel, Senior Code Compliance Inspector | Community Development Department Jackie is recognized by her peers for her cross-departmental assistance and innovative ideas. Most recently, she willingly took on the additional duties of acting as the County liaison at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during hurricane recovery efforts, which required her to learn the nuances of the role and quickly build relationships. Her co-workers describe her as someone who demonstrates hard work, passion, and integrity every day, and she always finds a way to get answers. Field: ?William "Ryan" Patton, Facility Maintenance I | Public Works Department Nominated by his peers as an exceptional team player, Ryan started with the City in January 2022. His co-workers view him as friendly and cheerful, always ready to lend a hand to other departments. Ryan is an all-around good worker and a pleasure to collaborate with at work.

Today, on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we honor the incredible men and women of the Treasure Island Police Department. This past year brought unprecedented challenges, including two hurricanes that tested our community. Through it all, TIPD faced each challenge head-on with professionalism, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to keeping Treasure Island safe. We are so grateful for TIPD—not just today but every day. Thank you for all you do to protect and serve our community. ????
