“The word I would use to describe supportive housing is empowerment.” Dena and Thomas from Fred Victor currently support 22 tenants and get to see first-hand the impact that supportive housing has on people’s lives. ???? Supportive homes offer people a warm, safe place to live while also providing tailored supports that empower residents to remain stably housed and rebuild their lives. The City’s HousingTO Plan views supportive housing as a vital part of the solution to Toronto’s housing crisis. Throughout 2023 and to date in 2024, the City opened over 1,200 new affordable rental, rent-geared-to-income, and supportive homes, with more on the way. We’re making Toronto’s historical buildings work for the needs of our growing city, and redeveloping 610 Bay Street and 130 Elizabeth Street. The past meets the future from an artist’s line drawing of the historic Toronto Coach Terminal from 1931 to the renderings of this heritage building post-redevelopment. This project includes: ?? 873 purpose-built rental housing units, including 290 affordable rentals. ?? A new Toronto Paramedics Multi-Hub that will provide vital emergency support to surrounding communities. ?? Adaptive re-use of the heritage bus terminal by celebrating the historical importance and character of the iconic Art Deco Coach Terminal. ?? Significant public space improvements including a new plaza imagined as an urban oasis. To bring this vision to life, today we joined CreateTO to announce that Kilmer Group and Tricon Residential will redevelop these City-owned sites. In October 2019, City Council selected eight high-value, underutilized City-owned properties, including 610 Bay St. and 130 Elizabeth St., for redevelopment. This redevelopment demonstrates how we can preserve Toronto's heritage while unlocking new opportunities to serve our community.
