There’s nothing quite like the sound of Norfolk Southern rolling through town—a little reminder of Thomasville’s rich history as a railway hub! ?? Did you know... the first train to travel between Lexington and Thomasville arrived on November 9, 1855. A large crowd of people, including Thomasville founder John W. Thomas and friends, gathered to welcome the huffing, puffing, whistle-blowing steam locomotive and several train cars.

A Busy Week of Service in Thomasville ?? This past week has highlighted the incredible dedication and teamwork of our emergency services and city departments:?? Weather-Related Accidents: Over the weekend, TPD and TF&RD personnel worked tirelessly on numerous weather-related accidents. Marijuana Grow House: On Thursday, TPD CID and Patrol officers successfully shut down a grow house operation at Big Chair Lofts, furthering our commitment to community safety. Chemical Leak Response: TPD responded to improper storage and leaking chemicals at 200 Mason Way. Thanks to swift action and collaboration with NC Dept. of Environmental Quality, remediation efforts are underway to ensure environmental safety. Support for Fellow Emergency Workers: Doc and BC Waddell visited Stanley County to support emergency workers mourning the tragic loss of a paramedic, a testament to compassion and solidarity within our emergency services family. Ongoing Projects: PW Crew and Hill Electric are making progress on the decorative light pole near the Library, ensuring our town stays bright and beautiful.

Recently featured on the Sunday TODAY show, Thomasville Yesterday’s spotlight shines on Matthew Lewis Jr., a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer whose lens captured history’s most iconic figures, including Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, and John Lennon. ?? Lewis Jr., a trailblazer in photojournalism, shared his gift with the world and left a legacy of powerful storytelling through imagery. Though he photographed the world’s most famous faces, his heart and home were right here in Thomasville, NC, where he peacefully passed away at the age of 94 on October 2, 2024. ??? We honor his extraordinary life and contributions to the arts. His work continues to inspire, and his connection to our community is a source of pride for Thomasville.
