On this chilly day, more than 200 years ago, Greece rose up for the cause of freedom and declared its independence from the Ottoman Empire. Today, Mayor Ben Walsh joined friends from St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church and members of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) to honor our Greek residents and neighbors. As we raise the Greek flag, we're reminded of centuries of arts, culture, and influence. Thank you to a nation deemed the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, and the Olympic Games!

Today, 3rd grade students from STEAM at Dr. King school marched to the front steps of City Hall to read a letter calling for greater access to fresh food in their neighborhood. Mayor Walsh listened to their request and shared efforts already underway to address this issue. We are proud of these young students for making their voices heard!

Unit G was organized by members of the faculty of the College of Medicine, Syracuse University, who were commissioned in the Medical Reserve Corns of the U.S Army. His unit served at the USA Base Hospital No. 31 in Contrexeville, France. We thank the Arthur Meyers family for sharing his story with the Syracuse Hometown Heroes banner program. • Syracuse’s St. Patrick’s Parade weekend began this morning with the annual tradition of painting the green stripe! This year, the 2025 Grand Marshal (Mayor Ben Walsh) and Gael of the Year (Meg O’Connell), along with community members, took part in the event, painting the way for the downtown parade route. Parade weekend continued with the annual ceremony with Irish dance performances at Palladian Hall. We look forward to seeing the City at tomorrow’s parade celebrating Irish pride in the 315!
