Today is the last day to vote in the Bulloch County SPLOST referendum. Polls are open until 7:00 p.m. To view a sample ballot, find your polling place and more, visit https://lnkd.in/gQwyN-Fk. What is it? SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. SPLOST is a county-wide, voter-approved one-cent sales tax that local governments use to fund specific capital projects. Our state government allows counties to levy sales taxes for local government and school funding. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gy8NQ9jK. Who Pays for It? SPLOST is different from a property tax. Property taxes are paid only by people who own property in Bulloch County. SPLOST, however, is paid by everyone who shops and dines in Bulloch County, no matter where they live. Who receives funds? Bulloch County and the municipalities of Statesboro, Brooklet, Portal, and Register will split up the 2025 SPLOST proceeds based on their population size. The 2025 SPLOST is projected to generate roughly $138,000,000 in revenue for Bulloch County over six years. Of that 138 million, the City of Statesboro is expected to receive around $31,912,020.

The City of Statesboro was recently recognized by United Way of Southeast Georgia for being the top 2024 employee campaign in Bulloch County. With the help of our generous employees, we raised $50,756 for United Way—surpassing our goal of $30,000. Thank you to this year's campaign co-chairs, Police Chief Mike Broadhead and Fire Chief Tim Grams, for helping our organization surpass its fundraising goal. United Way distributes donations to local programs that provide meaningful changes in the lives of individuals and families in our community. The contributions are invested in local programs and services, addressing the needs important to the people who live and work here. To learn more about United Way, visit www.unitedwaysega.org
