With heavy hearts, the city find ourselves needing to fill a vacancy of the Municipal Judge following the passing of the Honorable Judge Ted Elo. The city is asking those interested and who meet the criteria to submit a resume to the City Clerk by email to pheyde@stjosephmo.gov or in-person to Room 303, City Hall, 1100 Frederick Avenue, by no later than 5pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. All submissions will be reviewed and potential candidates will be subsequently interviewed. Applicants are required to be at least 25 years old, licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and a resident of the city for at least one year immediately prior to any appointment to office. In addition, no person in arrears for any city taxes shall be eligible to hold this office. For any questions or concerns, please contact the City Clerk’s office at 816-271-4731.

Around 40 community members of all ages rolled up their sleeves this past weekend and filled 59 bags of trash in the downtown area as April has been proclaimed Litter Awareness Month in St. Joseph. To help with these efforts, Beautify St. Joseph is promoting No Trash Tuesdays as residents are encouraged to make sure their trash gets in a trash can and to pick up litter while out and about. During the March 31 City Council meeting, council made several special recognitions: -Benton High School boys and girls basketball teams received a proclamation following an outstanding season as both teams made it to the state championship -Civic Facilities Manager Kathy Brock, who will be retiring April 6, received a key to the city after 45 years of service to the city -Fire Chief Kenny Cordonnier, who will be retiring April 4, received a key to the city after 43 years of service to the city -Parks, Recreation and Civic Facilities Director Chuck Kempf, who will be retiring April 4, received a key to the city after 20 years of service to the city -City Attorney Lisa Robertson, who retired earlier this year, received a key to the city after 26 years of service to the city (not in attendance)

The city of St. Joseph announces the retirement of Fire Chief Kenny Cordonnier. After more than 43 years of service with the organization, Chief Cordonnier will retire on April 4. Cordonnier started with the city on September 2, 1981, spending nine of those years as the Chief of Fire Prevention before taking over as Fire Chief in November 2021. During his time as chief, he focused on meeting the needs of the community as well as providing valuable leadership to those within the department. He oversaw the completion of the new fire station 8 as well as began the process for the new fire station 10 and upgrades to fire headquarters. We congratulate Kenny on his years of service to the organization and the community.

Update on current bridge projects: The contractor is getting ready to put down asphalt on the 6th Street viaduct. Additionally, concrete work will soon be underway on the MacArthur Drive bridge. All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change. Please exercise caution while in work zones to ensure your safety and that of crews working.
