Elizabeth “Liz” Abernethy, the City's Planning & Development Director, was honored with the Outstanding Local Public Official of the Year award by the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Florida) at the 2024 Florida Planning Conference in Tampa. Liz has been a pillar in the Tampa Bay region’s planning community for over 30 years, and her dedication shines through in her role with St. Petersburg since 2014. Liz's impact is felt city-wide, from zoning and development review to leading the City’s planning and historic preservation efforts. FRIDAY WAS A GOOD DAY. We celebrated the graduation of the first-ever 'Mayor's Future Ready Academy', a brand new, 17-week workforce readiness program that aims to connect young adults, ages 18-24, with employment opportunities at the City of St. Petersburg.
