  • ?? Historic Moment for Springfield! ?? Today, Jami Resch was officially sworn in as Interim Chief of Police, making history as the first woman to serve as Chief of Police in Springfield! ???? The Honorable Judge James Tierney administered the oath at the Springfield Justice Center, where Chief Resch was joined by friends, family, and community leaders. Mayor Sean VanGordon recognized the dedication of Springfield’s public safety professionals and welcomed Chief Resch to her new role: “Chief Resch is a proven leader who understands that public safety is more than enforcement - it’s a calling. It’s built on trust, accountability, and service. She brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to strengthening relationships, both within SPD and throughout our community.” With 26 years of law enforcement experience, including serving as Portland’s Chief of Police, Chief Resch has already made a lasting impact since joining Springfield Police Department in 2023. • ?? A groundbreaking moment for healthcare in Springfield! This week, we joined PeaceHealth, Lifepoint Rehabilitation, city leaders, and community members to break ground on PeaceHealth’s new inpatient rehabilitation hospital. This facility will provide life-changing care for those recovering from strokes, neurological diseases, and traumatic injuries - allowing more patients to heal close to home. ?? “Right now, too many patients and families must travel outside the region for specialized rehab care. This new facility changes that. With 42 inpatient beds, advanced therapy spaces, and the region’s first dedicated brain injury unit, it will fill a critical gap in our healthcare system,” said Mayor Sean VanGordon. “When we invest in health, we invest in people - and that’s what makes Springfield a community of opportunity.” A heartfelt thank you to PeaceHealth, Lifepoint Rehabilitation, healthcare staff, city officials, and all who attended to mark this special occasion! #SpringfieldOR #PeaceHealth #CommunityCare #HealthcareInnovation #InvestingInHealth

  • ? Honoring Jesse Maine: A Springfield Leader & Trailblazer ? February is Black History Month, a time to honor the achievements and contributions of Black Americans in our community. At Springfield City Hall, the Jesse Maine Conference Room serves as a lasting tribute to Springfield’s first Black City Councilor and his legacy of leadership, advocacy, and progress. Born in 1948, Jesse overcame hardships, working his way through college and eventually settling in Springfield, where he built a career in accounting and later founded PICO Information Systems. His passion for community development and equity led him to join the Springfield Planning Commission in 1988, and in 1992, he made history as the first Black City Councilor—winning more votes than any other candidate that year. Jesse was a champion for inclusivity and economic growth, playing a pivotal role in bringing Sony Disc Manufacturing to Springfield and fighting to overturn discriminatory policies. Sadly, he passed away in 1994 at just 46 years old, but his impact on Springfield’s civic landscape remains. Today, the Jesse Maine Conference Room stands as a reminder of his dedication, leadership, and advocacy for equity and justice. His story continues to inspire future generations to lead with courage and conviction. ?? Join us in celebrating Black History Month by recognizing the contributions of leaders like Jesse Maine, whose legacy shapes our community to this day! #BlackHistoryMonth #SpringfieldOR #JesseMaine #Leadership #CommunityImpact
