The Shelton Municipal Court's?Individualized Therapeutic Court program?is the proud recipient of a 2024 Innovating Justice Award, presented by the Board for Judicial Administration. Shelton Municipal Court, in partnership with Mason County District Court, has operated a community-coordinated therapeutic court program since 2022. Therapeutic courts are a proven way to holistically address and coordinate treatment for individuals in the legal system with behavioral health or substance use disorders. Therapeutic court participants learn methods to manage mental health or substance use disorders and essential life skills, such as managing family or social challenges, finding stable housing, and employment or educational needs. Participants meet weekly with a team consisting of a judge, court facilitator, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, treatment providers, educational providers, and community providers. Court is held in five languages - English, Spanish, Mam, Q'anjob'al, and Akateko - with the assistance of interpreters. There have been 17 graduations from the therapeutic court program, as of September 2024. The Innovating Justice Award recognizes an individual or group for exceptional leadership in helping courts deliver innovative and responsive justice using a race equity lens. As we head into Veterans Day weekend, we wanted to once again highlight Operation Green Light, an initiative to show our veterans that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. Operation Green Light's goal is to support military veterans and raise awareness about the unique challenges many veterans face and the available resources to serve veterans and their families. Residents and businesses are also encouraged to participate by displaying a green light in a window of their home or business, such as an exterior light that all can see or an interior light that can spark a conversation.

Shelton Police would like to thank our community partner Our Community Credit Union for their recent donation of $21,300 for purchasing several Flock Safety cameras. The FLOCK Safety system is a camera system that can read and store license plate information of vehicles being driven on roads or highways. The cameras are equipped with automatic license plate reading (ALPR) technology that captures and stores the rear license plate of vehicles for 30 days. If the system detects a stolen or wanted vehicle, an automatic notification is sent to on-duty Shelton Police officers detailing the vehicle's location, a description of the vehicle, and the reason the vehicle is wanted. We value our continued partnership with OURCU and appreciate their commitment to the safety of our citizens in Shelton and the surrounding communities.

We were honored to welcome visitors from the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings & Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), hosted by Peninsula Credit Union, at the Civic Center earlier this week! The group toured several sites in Shelton as part of their trip to Washington state. Mayor Onisko and Chief Kostad welcomed the group to Shelton.
??????????????’?? ?????????????????? ???????? ???? ???????????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???????????? ?????????? ???????? ?????? ???????????? ???? SEATTLE, 17 JULY 2024, (ACCOSCA) – African Credit unions play a vital role in the continent’s efforts to deepen financial inclusion, promoting members’ participation in economic life and contributing to poverty reduction. At the heart of this transformation, ACCOSCA is strengthening the credit union movement for the socio-economic advancement of local communities and shared prosperity. In our July Learn and Share Initiative, currently underway in Seattle – Washington State, participants got a first-hand experience on how credit unions can be a growing force for member financial stability, by visiting Peninsula Credit Union in Shelton, Washington. This is one of the first community-chartered member-owned credit unions in the USA, making a difference in members’ lives since 1935. It was a distinct honor and a humbling moment when the delegation was received by the City of Shelton Mayor Eric Onisko and Police Chief Chris Kostad during the visit. Hosted by Jim Morrell, I-CUDE - President and CEO of Peninsula Credit Union, participants cultivated insights on how the towering institution is championing financial inclusion among local members as one of its main building blocks towards inclusive growth. Later on, participants visited Sierra Pacific Lumber Mill. This is one of the largest U.S. lumber manufacturers providing renewable and sustainable forest management practices through state-of-the-art computer technology. To wrap up the visit to Shelton, participants visited the Shelton Family YMCA Center, which is supported by Peninsula Credit Union, to learn how communities can be strengthened through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As ACCOSCA, we remain committed to leveraging global strategic linkages and partnerships as a strategy geared towards opening new avenues that accelerate financial inclusion in Africa. #PeopleHelpingPeople || www.accosca.org || Peninsula Credit Union || KUSCCO - Kenya Union of Savings & Credit Co-operatives Ltd. || Kenya National Police DT SACCO || Stima Sacco Society Ltd || Co-operative Bank of Kenya
