The City of San Antonio City Council has approved an update to the City’s smoking ordinance aimed at further protecting public health and improving the quality of life for all residents. Sections of the Municipal Code need to incorporate Electronic Smoking Devices (ESD’s), also known as e-cigarettes or vapes, into the definition of smoking to align with best public health practices.? The revised ordinance, which will take effect on January 1, 2025, prohibits the use of Electronic Smoking Devices (ESDs) in all venues where smoking is currently restricted. Metro Health is excited to announce the winners of the 2025 Art and Poetry contest Jocyln Tamez, 11th grade and Emmanuel Rodriguez 7th grade. Youth participants around Bexar County submitted art and poetry that was featured at the City Council A Session on OCT 31 where the Mayor proclaimed November as Diabetes Awareness Month. The City of San Antonio passed the Domestic Violence Signage ordinance in October 2023. The ordinance requires all public places to post domestic violence resource signs in restrooms used by visitors or employees by October 1, 2024. The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District will provide the required signage at no cost.
