Meet Matt Bazyk! Matt certainly stays busy in his role as the Recreation Services Manager at the City of Robbinsdale! Matt is responsible for all things recreation, from planning future programming to managing his team of amazing staff. In addition, he also serves as the staff liaison to the Senior Commission, Whiz Bang Days Commitee, City Farmer’s Market, and the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Commission. While he balances a lot, all of the hard work is worth it when he gets to see the community enjoying the events and programs his team puts together! Matt was born in Arkansas and attended Missouri State where he graduated with a degree in Recreation and Leisure. He moved to Minneapolis in 2011 and was introduced to Robbinsdale through serving on the board of the Robbinsdale Little League. He then started his career with the City of Robbinsdale in 2022 as the Community Engagement Coordinator and moved into his current leadership role in 2023. While office days are consistent, the real variety of his job occurs in the evenings when Matt attends and helps out with various sports programming and City-wide events. In 2024, Matt’s favorite City events were the Bike Rodeo and the Boo Bash, since so many community members came together to have some fun! The annual Badges and Bobbers event also holds a special place in Matt’s heart, since it was the first event that he coordinated himself, and it involved building great relationships with the Robbinsdale Police Department and other local police departments. There is always something to be look forward to in the world of recreation, and Matt is currently excited about a volleyball tournament coming to Whiz Bang Days this year, as well as potentially bringing back a running race to Robbinsdale in the future. Outside of work, Matt enjoys staying active through disc golfing, tennis, and running races, but he also enjoys his fair share of video gaming and rewatching movies that he’s already seen before too! We thank Matt for his work to consistently bring phenomenal recreation programs and events into our community — we appreciate you! Check out the photo of Matt and his son, Easton!
