The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is pleased to announce the selection of Robert Moya as Deputy Director of Finance! Mr. Moya started at the City last week, bringing over two decades of experience in municipal finance, most recently as the Administrative Manager at the City of Orange, where he spent 20 years and advanced his career through various roles including Housing Specialist, Project Development Coordinator, Senior Administrative Analyst, Budget Officer, Budget Manager, and Administrative Manager. Mr. Moya has an extensive background in financial management, including capital budgeting, personnel costing, preparing analyses, and expenditure and revenue budgeting of over $200 million. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from Trinity Law School, a Master of Public Administration degree from Cal State Long Beach and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Business Management from Cal Poly Pomona. In his new role, Mr. Moya will work alongside the Director of Finance in managing daily operations focusing on payroll, treasury management, system administration, budgeting, and forecasting. He enjoys playing piano and bass guitar for various bands and artists, producing music, going to concerts, cheering on the Lakers, and spending time with his wife and four kids. Mr. Moya also loves traveling to his second home in Las Vegas on weekends, when he can, to spend time with family and friends. Please join us in welcoming him to RPV!

Please join us in welcoming Ridge Briel to Team RPV! Ridge officially joined the City this summer as a Permit Technician in the Community Development Department, after working in the same role as a contractor since March 2024. In the Building and Safety Division, he processes and issues building permits, schedules daily inspection routes, reviews minor plan checks, processes geologic and structural plan check requests, and maintains current permit and geologic files. Prior to working in RPV, Ridge worked on the other side of the counter as a permit runner, a property maintenance technician, a video game tester, a Transportation Security Officer for the Department of Homeland Security, a lead bookseller for Barnes and Noble, and as a freelance music journalist. He graduated summa cum laude with an associate’s degree in information technology from Eastern Gateway Community College and earned an associate’s degree in communications and media studies from Long Beach City College. Outside of work, Ridge loves to play video games, create woodworking projects, and nerd out about music history. Welcome, Ridge!

Caitlin started over the summer as a Senior Recreation Leader at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center where she greets guests, helps run the gift shop, and maintains park grounds. Prior to joining the City, Caitlin worked at YMCA of Silicon Valley as an afterschool program leader. She has experience with supervising children, creating lesson plans, and planning activities for youth. Caitlin is a recent graduate of San Jose State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in public health and minored in psychology. Outside of work, she enjoys arts and crafts, photography, and reading. She also likes to capture memories on her Olympus film camera. Welcome, Caitlin!

Zander started over the summer as a Senior Recreation Leader at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, where he is responsible for managing hikes and tours, administering services in the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, and coordinating numerous community activities and events. Prior to joining the City, Zander was on the Redondo Beach Historical Commission and helped manage the Redondo Beach Historical Museum, where he is a docent. He holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Cal State Northridge. He enjoys prop-making for cosplay, running Dungeons & Dragons games for friends, and reading and writing short fiction. Please join us in congratulating Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks Daniel Trautner on his promotion to Director of Recreation and Parks! Mr. Trautner took the helm of the City’s largest department at the end of July following the retirement of former Director Cory Linder. He oversees 14 full-time and over 60 part-time staff, all recreational programming, special events, seven staffed park sites, and the Open Space and Trails Division, which manages the 1,500-acre, City-owned Palos Verdes Nature Preserve. He brings 22 years of experience in the field of recreation and parks, spending the past decade in Rancho Palos Verdes during a time of growth and transformation for the department. ?? Please join us in welcoming Luna Mohammad to Team RPV! Luna started this week as the City’s Emergency Management Coordinator, managing the City’s emergency preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts and supporting the overall disaster resilience of the RPV community. She comes from the Collaborating Agencies' Disaster Relief Effort (CADRE) of the Silicon Valley, serving as their Emergency Manager and supporting their efforts to develop community support networks across Santa Clara County. Prior to that, she worked for four years in Monterey County, as the Community Resilience Coordinator and volunteered with the Los Angeles Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and American Red Cross for one year. Luna has a master’s degree in sociology from Colorado State University, conducting her master’s thesis on the impacts of cumulative disaster exposure on families in Southeast Louisiana. She also obtained two bachelor’s degrees from the University of California, Irvine in social ecology and criminology. Luna loves traveling, writing, hiking, and everything to do with the ocean.
