Staff members from the Plymouth Community Center recently attended a Dementia Friends session to better understand dementia and create a more inclusive community. The session covered strategies for supporting individuals with dementia, including effective communication and patience, and where to find additional resources and support. By equipping staff with these insights, the Plymouth Community Center aims to foster a welcoming space for all. This initiative aligns with Plymouth’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that people living with dementia and their care partners can participate in and enjoy the Plymouth Community Center’s activities and services. The City of Plymouth offers Dementia Friends informational sessions for community members, as well as Memory Cafés – gatherings where individuals with dementia and their caregivers can connect, socialize and learn coping strategies.
