It is with great sadness that the City of Plano announces the passing of Former Mayor James Muns. Muns, the father of current Mayor John Muns, served as Plano Mayor from 1992-1996. James met his wife, Betty, at Abilene Christian University. The two married in 1952 and enjoyed 71 years of marriage together. Betty passed away last year. The Muns moved to Plano in the early 1970s, where they quickly became pillars in the community. He started the investment company Muns Enterprises in the early 1970s. One of his first projects was the development of El Rancho Estates. He is survived by his children: Katharine "Kathy" Muns Spencer (Clark), Marla Muns, Dr. Greg Muns (Laurie) and John Muns (Joa). He is survived by his grandchildren: Kyle Spencer, Dr. Adam Spencer (Kristen), Shane Spencer (Crystal), Cara McNeese Pierce (Cary), Kimberly McNeese Moye (Jim), Dr. Alan Muns (Kyla), Philip Muns (Lorraine), Tyler Muns (Jade), Jenna Muns Maynard (Casey), Whitney Muns Digges (Matt), Tanner Muns (Brittney), along with 29 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
