The City of Paso Robles is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive $380,530 in funding from the?Caltrans Cycle 12 Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP)?Grant. This grant aims to enhance pedestrian safety throughout the city with the installation of new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) and upgrades to existing devices, as well as improvements to traffic signals at a key intersection. The grant will cover up to 90% of the project costs, allowing the City to maximize its resources and improve pedestrian visibility and safety across multiple locations. The new RRFBs will be installed at two locations: - Montebello Oaks & Union - Nickerson Dr at the Centennial Trail crossing Additionally, upgrades to existing RRFBs will be made along Spring Street at the intersections of 17th and 21st Streets. These improvements will mirror the successful installation of the RRFB currently located on Spring Street at 11th, providing enhanced visibility for pedestrians crossing in these high-traffic areas. “We are thrilled to receive this grant and look forward to implementing these safety measures,” said Interim City Manager Chris Huot. “ By leveraging these funds, we can continue to prioritize pedestrian safety and make important improvements that benefit our community.” The grant also supports signal upgrades at the intersection of Golden Hill and Creston Road, with a 50% reimbursement rate. These upgrades are aimed at enhancing traffic flow and further improving safety by implementing adaptive signal control with advanced dilemma zone detection.
