It’s World Toilet Day! No better way to celebrate than to share the good news that our Wastewater Team earned the Peak Performance Platinum Award from National Association of Clean Water Agencies for FIVE STRAIGHT YEARS of 100% compliance at the Cedar Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility. Even through a pandemic, our team was able to maintain top-tier operations and record ZERO permit violations at the facility ??????

Members of our team were honored at the Kansas Public Health Association conference with the Policymaker of the Year Award for their efforts in developing and implementing policy for the new lead and copper pipe federal regulations. Their work accomplished goals far in advance of federal requirements and eliminated lead and galvanized water service lines in vulnerable areas of the city.

The City of Olathe’s Planning division has their eyes locked on building excellence through the Elevate Olathe Comprehensive Plan. The last comprehensive plan was adopted in 2010, which sparked nearly fifteen years of transformation and growth. But as Olathe’s population continues to expand, it’s time to re-evaluate the lens that guides our use of land and the infrastructure needed to serve our community. ? The effort is being led by Planning and Development Manager Kim Hollingsworth, in partnership with the numerous City staff, Elevate Olathe Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, and a compilation of key external stakeholders. ? With the help of Houseal Lavigne, a national award-winning urban planning and geospatial design firm, the phases are laid out for an 18-month effort that will provide Olathe with a framework for the years ahead. ? Like the Olathe 2040: Future Ready Strategic Plan, engagers will be leveraged to gather community feedback, ensuring the vision of the plan reflects the goals of those who live and work in Olathe. A team of 60 staff members across all departments will be present at events this fall engaging with the community to gain feedback to inform the plan update. ? A guide for everything from zoning decisions, infrastructure needs to fire station placement, this holistic document will be a blueprint for staff, the Planning Commission and City Council as they continue to make Olathe future ready. ? While the plan has tremendous significance for our community, it is also a pivotal professional moment for those making it happen. ? “It’s a privilege and an honor to do this. It’s a planner’s Olympics; truly a dream project that happens only once or twice in a career,” said Kim. ? As Kim continues to pour her heart and expertise into this project, she sits alongside a book of Chicago’s historic comprehensive plan, the first ever created in the United States, and a landscape of New York City. Like these iconic visuals, the fruits of Kim’s leadership will undoubtably be enjoyed for generations to come. ?
