Honoring a Fallen Texas Sheriff Odessa Fire Rescue Pipe and Drum Corps, along with the OPD Honor Guard, attended a special service to pay tribute to a Cochran County Sheriff. The service was held at First Baptist Church of Morton. Jorge De La Cruz, 52, passed away from a sudden heart attack a week ago after recently being re-elected. The father of four had served as the county’s sheriff for seven years, according to his obituary. Also in attendance to assist with the pipes and drums were two officers from the Houston Police Department and two troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family!

Supporting the Perkins Family in Their Time of Loss On November 20, 2024, 18-year-old twins Jaden and Jackie, along with their 16-year-old sister Nautica, tragically lost their lives in a head-on crash on FM 1053, south of Highway 329, in Crane County, Texas. Their mother, Heather Perkins, serves as a Patrol Lieutenant with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office. Odessa, let’s come together to support the Perkins family during this heartbreaking time. The Chuck Wagon Community Fund, Inc. will host a hamburger fundraiser on Friday, December 6, at the Ector County Coliseum to assist the family. Swearing-In Ceremony A special event for the City of Odessa! Mayor Cal Hendrick, Council Member At-Large Craig Stoker, Council Member for District 1 Eddie Mitchell, and Council Member for District 2 Steve Thompson were officially sworn-in Tuesday night. During the ceremony, Council Member Stoker shared his optimism for the future, stating,?“We have a strong community behind us that is ready for action.” We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us to honor this occasion. As we look ahead, the City of Odessa remains committed to fostering growth, strengthening our community, and ensuring a brighter future for all residents.
