Join us in celebrating the stories of Matt Thompson, Branch Manager at Norfolk Public Library, and Capt. Renato Aponte of Norfolk Police Department, as they reflect on their Hispanic heritage. For Matt, his Mexican American roots gained deeper significance after moving to the Mid-Atlantic, making Hispanic Heritage Month a poignant reminder of his family’s journey from Mexico. Capt. Aponte’s Puerto Rican heritage fuels his commitment to uplifting Norfolk’s Hispanic community, even inspiring him to establish Hispanic Cultural Day in Ocean View to amplify those voices. Discover how their heritage shapes their lives and why representation matters.
