Reliving the Magic of Newark’s 90th St. Patrick’s Day Parade! ???? This weekend, we celebrated 90 years of Irish pride with our legendary parade! ?? This year’s Grand Marshal, Sean McGovern, and Deputy Grand Marshals led the festivities, honoring a rich legacy of community spirit. A huge thank you to Parade Chair Susan H. Mayor Baraka, Governor Murphy, and NJPAC have officially broken ground on a $336 million, three-year redevelopment of NJPAC’s 12-acre downtown campus — a transformative project bringing 350 new mixed-income housing units, retail and dining, a new home for WBGO, and expanded public spaces to Newark’s arts and culture district. Anchored by the new neighborhood “ArtSide,” the development will extend Mulberry Street and breathe new life into underused areas, with 20% of residences designated as affordable housing. At the heart of the plan is the Cooperman Family Arts Education and Community Center — a 58,000-square-foot facility that will serve as a hub for learning, creativity, and community connection. Alongside this, the revitalized Chambers Plaza, a new Essex County Green urban park, and professional rehearsal studios will enhance the public experience and help establish NJPAC as a year-round destination for residents and visitors alike. With strong backing from NJEDA, Prudential, Liberty Mutual, and other public-private partners, plus support from NJPAC’s $244 million capital campaign, this bold reimagining cements Newark’s future as a cultural powerhouse. As Mayor Baraka said, “The streets of Newark have always been steeped in the arts — now we’re building a community to reflect that spirit.”
