From showcasing cutting-edge geospatial tools to engaging with members of our community, you’ve made us incredibly proud. Your efforts highlight the significant role GIS plays in shaping Morgantown’s future.
Last week at City Council, we had the pleasure of recognizing the amazing talent of some of our local students! ??? Eight winners were selected from our recent Municipal Week coloring contest and were honored with a certificate of achievement for their incredible designs. Their submissions were chosen from over 60 entries by a panel of City of Morgantown employees. The winning designs are now on display in the foyer of City Hall and will remain there until further notice. We encourage the community to stop by and view them!

This morning, Mayor Abu-Ghannam visited Mountaineer Middle School to speak with Ms. Addie and Mrs. Courtwright's classes about the logistics of local government! It was a tremendous pleasure to see our community's youth so engaged in municipal issues. ?? The Mayor also had a chance to meet and speak with a few of our coloring contest participants! During last week's Municipal Week festivities, our City Clerk’s Office, with help from our Special Projects Coordinator, visited each of our city buildings to hand-spin cotton candy and deliver small gifts to all 300+ city employees on behalf of city administration. The Morgantown Fire Dept. even jumped in and spun their own cotton candy!
Last week, during our Municipal Week activities, students from Pre-K to 5th grade at North Elementary School had the exciting opportunity to explore a variety of city vehicles at our second annual Touch a Truck event! We are so thankful to our dedicated staff from the Police Department, Fire Department, Municipal Airport, IT Department, Public Works, Urban Landscapes, and Parking Authority who made this event possible. A special thank you goes to the staff of North Elementary and our City Clerk's office for their exceptional organization. The City Clerk's office plans to continue this event annually, rotating through our local schools each year.
