Mayor Cec Koontz, City Manager Rochelle Roaden, and Councilwoman Roxanne Beltz are attending the League Of Oregon Cities conference this week. It’s always a pleasure to have representatives of Monmouth attend the annual conference to exchange ideas with other Oregon cities. We are very proud of our City Manager for being a Board Member for the LOC. She is pictured here with Mayor Koontz, Councilwoman Roxanne Beltz, and LOC staff, Nolan Ple?e.

What a fun day to capture a shot for #CityHallSelfieDay! Thanks to the League Of Oregon Cities for helping us celebrate public service, government buildings, and to let us showcase the City of Monmouth's new City Hall. We love our community and are very grateful to serve the folks who live, work, and play here. We are also especially proud of our AARP funded Ally Oasis that the entire community gets to enjoy. The selection at the Little Free Library here is constantly changing so stop by soon and grab a new book and enjoy the space.

Thanks to the Monmouth Police Department, the Independence Police Department, Polk County Fire District 1, and the many sponsors who participated in #NationalNightOut. Our officers enjoy opportunities to engage with the community alongside other local First Responders and we appreciate all the folks who came out for games, food, and a deeper connection to our police officers.

New look - same great town. In 2023, the city contracted Altar Media to help with the process of a rebrand. Altar Media, a local company, worked with city staff, a group of volunteers, and reviewed the over 260 survey responses from community members. In six months of meeting, several iterations of concepts, and deeper feedback from City staff and Councilors, the new logo was born! This logo represents the vibrancy of our community and the love we have for the landscape. The array of colors speak to the inclusivity, energy, growth, and diversity of the Monmouth community. We hope you enjoy this new logo for years to come and are proud to say that you live and play in Monmouth, Oregon: Where great things grow.

The City of Monmouth is excited to announce that it has been selected to receive a 2024 AARP Community Challenge Grant! With over 3,300 applicants this year, Monmouth is one of the 343 grantees selected from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. ? These quick-action grant funds will be used to activate a pedestrian alleyway connecting Main Street and the Monmouth Senior Community Center. The goal of this project is to create a welcoming space for community members of all ages and abilities to enjoy Monmouth’s beautiful historic downtown. Providing places for visitors to spend time downtown was identified as a key goal in the?2042 Downtown Improvement Plan, and the City is thrilled to have AARP’s support to make these improvements. The City has hired a team of students and staff from the University of Oregon to create the designs for the space. Two temporary designs will be installed this summer with opportunities for the public to give their thoughts and feedback. In the fall, the team will use this feedback to create a proposal for a permanent design to be implemented in the future. Over the summer visitors can expect to see seating, plants, games, art pop-ups, and more. For updates, check out the?project page?on the City of Monmouth’s website as well as the City’s social media pages. “We are incredibly proud that AARP selected the City of Monmouth for this investment,” stated Monmouth Mayor Cecelia Koontz. “It’s a testament to our commitment to live the values signified by our AARP Age-Friendly Cities designation and to continue to partner on making our city an inclusive and accessible place for people of all ages and abilities.” About the AARP Community Challenge The AARP Community Challenge grant program funds innovative, quick-action projects that inspire change in areas such as public places; housing; transportation; digital connectivity; community resilience; and more. With additional funding support provided by Toyota Motor North America, the program is also increasing its investment in pedestrian safety projects that will improve streets and sidewalks, create vibrant pedestrian infrastructure, engage community members and much more. This is all part of AARP’s nationwide work on livable communities, which supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities and counties across the country to become great places for all. AARP believes that communities should provide safe, walkable streets; affordable and accessible housing and transportation options; access to needed services; and opportunities for residents to participate in community life. Lynda Bersani, community member and also a member of one of our Boards and Commissions, was a grantee from the Monmouth Parks and Rec funding program. In a collaboration with ODOT and Cycle Oregon with the Safe Routes to Schools Grants, Lynda was able to work with sponsors from Salem Health's Trauma Injury Prevention Program to take her grant and make it a day of bike safety for 5th graders at Monmouth Elementary School. Polk County Fire District No.1, Officer Hamilton from the Monmouth Police Department, and many volunteers were on campus to fit students for bike helmets, teach them basic bike safety road rules, and took them on a small road course to test their new skills! Thanks to Lynda for sharing her passion with the community and for bringing the Bike Rodeo back for a second year!
