Help us keep our waterways clean by properly disposing of trash and garbage! Did you know that storm water is not treated and empties into our rivers, lakes and ocean? ?? When debris is swept into storm drains, it pollutes our waterways, floods our roads, and harms wildlife. Remember to bag grass clippings, leaves and yard waste for trash pickup, or use another proper disposal method like composting. ?? Learn more about trash, garbage and litter at https://lnkd.in/eb6aQy_i. Special thanks to Mobile United, Inc and the Leadership Mobile Class of 2024 for helping us create this PSA!

Gynecologic (GYN) cancers are among the leading cancer killers of women in the United States, and more than 125,000 women will be diagnosed this year. It is crucial that all women in our state and the City of Mobile take an active role in developing healthy habits and undergoing regular medical examinations so that any occurrence of these diseases may be detected in their early and treatable stages. We reflect upon the memory of those lost to these diseases, the bravery of those currently battling these diagnoses, and the need for increased awareness, screening, and research and encourage all citizens to work together to raise awareness of GYN cancers. #GynecologicCancerAwarenessMonth ??

Every day, 47 children across the United States are diagnosed with cancer. While the overall survival rate for childhood cancer has increased, for many more rare childhood cancers, the survival rate remains low. Now more than ever, it is important that we acknowledge the devastating impact this disease has on our children and their families. Please join us in observing #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth. ????

The Civic Center has been a part of every Mobilian’s life in one way or another. Many of us have attended Mardi Gras balls there. Others went for the Mysticks, the Jags or many other sporting events. Some have watched generations of their family dance in front of a packed house. Others waited in line for hours to see superstars like Elvis Presley, Sir Elton John and the Jackson 5. ?????? We thank those who took the time to attend today’s celebration. It was a spectacular event that took many people's hard work. First and foremost, we want to recognize the effort that so many City of Mobile staff members put into organizing and planning the event. Lee Callaghan, who works with the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department, also spent hours creating an incredible replica of the entire Civic Center site that played an integral role in today’s ceremonies. The Mobile City Council’s participation and support were much appreciated, and we owe a special thanks to Council President C.J. Small for providing the showstopping hearse featured in the processional. We also want to thank tribute competition winner Danny Rickert and his wife Joan, The City of Mobile’s Poet Laurette, Dr. Charlotte Pence, Joe Cain’s Merry Widows and the nearly two dozen parading societies and Mardi Gras organizations represented during today’s ceremony. Getting their participation was crucial, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Judy Gulledge and the Mobile Carnival Museum. ??

Thanks to volunteers from Mission Serve, eight homes were repaired and painted in Mobile earlier this month. ?? These incredible young people volunteered through the City of Mobile's "Volunteer Painting Program," which uses federal funding to cover the hard cost of repairs and improvements to homes in underserved communities. Mission Serve has provided this service around the country for twenty years, and Mobile is only one of 15 cities to host volunteers this year.
