Can you believe it's been a year?! Happy Birthday to Merriam Plaza Library! The new library opened March 20, 2024. Take a look back at the ribbon-cutting ceremony with the City Council, the Webb family, and those checking out books right after it opened. There are also a few photos from the book relay about two weeks before the grand opening, where nearly 450 community members helped pass books from Antioch Library to Merriam Plaza Library.

Congratulations to Master Police Officer Brandon Bates for being named the 2024 Merriam Police Department Officer of the Year! Merriam Police Chief Darren McLaughlin and Mayor Bob Pape honored him at the March 10 City Council meeting. Bates received this peer-nominated award for going above and beyond to serve his community and police family. “Merriam allows officers to thrive and enjoy being at work," Bates said. Team Merriam took the PLUNGE today for Special Olympics Kansas! They raised nearly $1,500 for the 2025 Polar Plunge, and every dollar goes toward Special Olympics programming to support more than 4,800 Special Olympics athletes in Kansas. Way to take one for the team!
