If you’ve enjoyed an event at the historic Marysville Opera House, you know how special it is. Readers around Snohomish County agree. The Opera House was named Best Wedding Venue in the Everett Herald 2024 “Best of Snohomish County” awards. The Marysville Opera House was built in 1911 for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal organization. After the Odd Fellows lodge disbanded in the 1960s, the building had a colorful history, including stints as a roller skating rink, an indoor shooting range, a furniture store and a teen disco nightclub. The City of Marysville bought the Opera House in 2018 and has renovated it to retain its elegant charm. It is the only building in Marysville listed on the historic register. Features include a magnificent ballroom and stage, charming mezzanine, picturesque balcony, modern A/V systems and separate get-ready cottage. Check out the venue for your next special event at free open houses held the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1225 3rd St.

  • Are you or do you know a young person interested in exploring careers in construction and maritime industries? Here's an excellent opportunity right here in Marysville! The March 12 event is open to all community members, with families, students of all ages and the public encouraged to attend.

A new Construction/Maritime Career Day event series hosted by the The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce and industry partners is set for March 12-13, 2025, at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Marysville, Wash. Join us for this free, two-day program that seeks to introduce and inspire high school aged students and young adults in North Snohomish County to explore careers in the construction and maritime industries. On Wednesday, March 12, from 4 – 6 p.m., the event is open to all community members, with families, students of all ages and the public encouraged to attend. On Thursday, March 13, from 9 – 11:30 a.m., the event is only open for high school field trips. “With rising costs in traditional education pathways and a significant employment gap in the trades, it’s a great time for students and young adults entering the workforce to consider alternatives that await them here in North Snohomish County in construction and maritime,” said Ivonne Sepulveda, President/CEO of The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce. “We are grateful to our sponsors, Center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing & Technology, Port of Everett, and Western Washington Sheet Metal JATC, and our many industry partners, for making this event possible.” The event will be open house style with hands-on activities. There will be more than a dozen organizations at the career fair offering attendees a look at a wide variety of skills, career and education pathways, job opportunities and more. The construction and maritime industries employ more than 450,000 people in Washington state, generate billions of dollars in revenue each year and are key drivers to our local and regional economies. Both industries offer the future workforce a vast array of career opportunities and pathways to living wage jobs. If you are looking for additional more information, contact The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce at 360-659-7700 or [email protected].

  • Making sure your tap water is safe to drink is a scientifically complex process that extends from the city’s treatment plants to your faucets. That’s where Krista Gessner comes in. As the city’s cross connection control specialist, her job involves tests, inspections and education about potential contamination. Risk of drinking water contamination can come from backflow from pools, boilers, wells, irrigation systems and home medical equipment. “If a homeowner has certain hazards connected to their water lines with no backflow prevention in place, the potential to contaminate our drinking water supply increases,” Gessner says. “Identifying and preventing these risks is a big part of my job.” A city employee for nearly 25 years, Gessner started in a part-time position before becoming the first woman to work on the Water Utility Construction team. Following her passion in science, she later moved toward a career with the Water Quality team where she works today. “I’d be lying if I said it was easy, but I wanted to learn every aspect of working in water,” Gessner says. “I find it remarkable what we can change in the physical and chemical characteristics of water to make it potable.” #WomenInScience #February11 #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience
