The Center for Digital Government (CDG) has announced the winners of the 24th?Annual Digital Cities Survey,?recognizing cities utilizing technology?to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance transparency, digital privacy rights, and digital equity, and those finding innovative ways to support solutions for social challenges facing cities today. The top 10-ranking cities in each of five population categories were honored during the Digital Cities Awards event at the National League of Cities “City Summit” on November 13 in Tampa Bay, Florida. ? “Cities of every size are redefining what’s possible using technology to elevate public service and improve government,” said John Matelski, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Government. “The Digital Cities Survey is proud to honor these visionary leaders and cities setting bold new benchmarks in digital governance.?Congratulations?to all those driving impactful change and pioneering the future of local government with innovation and steadfast commitment.” ? This year, the City of Lynchburg placed fifth its population category (75,000 – 124,999), tying with Roanoke, VA. This is the 20th consecutive year the City of Lynchburg has been in the national top ten ranking. Lynchburg made notable strides to enhance community engagement and city services. The city introduced the Budget Bracket Challenge, an innovative tool encouraging public participation in budget planning by allowing residents to vote on city services. A revamped website and YouTube channel modernized Lynchburg’s online presence, resulting in a 25% increase in website traffic and a 15% rise in online viewership. The police department adopted Axon VR training, improving officers' de-escalation and decision-making skills. Additionally, the IT department expanded its cybersecurity team and increased entry-level salaries by 10%, reducing turnover in critical positions. ? “It is an honor to once again be ranked among the top 10 digital cities for our size,” said Tom Williamson, Chief Information Officer for the City of Lynchburg. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributes to shaping, strengthening, and supporting the technology that empowers our workforce to deliver exceptional services to our citizens every day. The City of Lynchburg held its semi-annual employee Fall Forum on October 31, 2024. These forums are a great way for employees to learn about benefits, and wellness information, and hear from special speakers about various topics of interest. During the event, employees enjoyed food, music, and networking. The theme was Halloween, with a costume contest, candy prizes, spooky trivia, and more fun. Our Human Resources team does a wonderful job coordinating these events.
