City officials have announced a proposal to reduce dangerous driving in Lincoln. The proposed changes include: ?? Updated definitions for “racing” and “race tracks” ?? A new section defining “disorderly vehicles,” outlining penalties for violations ?? Immediate impoundment for vehicles involved in racing, reckless driving or fleeing to avoid arrest A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, March 24. Learn more ??

The City’s lead water service line replacement program is expanding to Everett, Near South, Irvingdale and South Salt Creek neighborhoods this spring! Property owners in these areas will be contacted as we work toward our goal of replacing nearly 6,000 lead service lines by 2035, at no cost to property owners. Since the program launched last year, 138 lead and galvanized lines in Woods Park, North Bottoms and Hawley neighborhoods have already been replaced with copper pipes. What an incredible week celebrating Workforce Week! We highlighted how the City’s investments are strengthening Lincoln’s workforce, from career development programs that have served over 1,400 people to the new $1.3M Future-Ready Workforce Initiative. We also celebrated the impact of our $1.1M grant to Bryan Foundation, which has already helped 192 nursing and phlebotomist students, and our $200,000 investment in ECHO Collective, which is empowering immigrant and refugee women to launch and grow small businesses right here in Lincoln. It’s day four of Workforce Week, and we’re excited to announce the new $1.3 million Future-Ready Workforce Initiative! This program will provide scholarships for training in high-demand careers like electricians, HVAC technicians, and automotive service technicians, focusing on underemployed individuals and those facing barriers to employment. Together with partners like Southeast Community College, American Job Center of Lancaster and Saunders Counties, Select Lincoln | Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development, International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Local 265, and Lincoln Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center, we’re preparing Lincoln’s workforce for the careers of tomorrow. Hello from day three of Workforce Week! Today we’re highlighting investments in health professions. The City awarded a $1.1 million ARPA Workforce Development Grant to the Bryan Foundation to provide scholarships for nursing students and to credential community members with Certified Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy certificates. Since receiving the grant, Bryan College of Health Sciences has served 192 students with a 90% graduation rate, 97 of whom are now employed in the healthcare industry.
