On Monday August 26, City Council approved the Lexington Fire Department's Comfort K9 Program Policy. The approval of the policy will lead to the arrival of Luna, the department's comfort K9. Luna, a red labrador retriever, is expected to arrive in late September to provide companionship and emotional relief for firefighters that face immense stress and trauma in their line of work. The comfort K9 policy explains the purpose, expectations, designated handlers, training, transportation, daily care, and treatment of Luna. The Comfort K9 Policy can be viewed at https://lnkd.in/eHwhNS63 The City will soon be accepting donations that will be utilized for Luna's well-being including veterinary visits, toys, and other quality of life expenses. Donations will not be used for any City expenses outside of Luna's care/treatment. More information will be released in the near future about how supporters can donate.

Thank you to the City's staff at the Lexington Golf Club for their dedication on completing the green renovation project. Here are a few facts about the Lexington Golf Club and their recent green renovation project: -The City completed a no-till greens renovation. This involves converting bent grass surfaces and converting them to champion Bermuda grass. It is now a more heat-tolerant grass and requires fewer chemicals, less water and it allowed us to restore the greens closure to their original size. - LGC was able to reclaim 20% of the original square footage that was lost. -The project was originally supposed to take 8 weeks, but it was accomplished ahead of schedule - Last fiscal year, the LGC had approximately 32,000 rounds of golf played (with one month of closure due to the renovation project)

Here's what happened this morning at Lexington Golf Club's ribbon cutting to celebrate their reopening after being closed to the public for six weeks. The closure was due to the green renovation project that the golf course underwent this summer. Thank you to the City staff for their hard work and dedication to this project.
